Agree with you, would frame it more as needing to have a relationship vs. "have provided value".  Different industry, but there are a number of aviation youtubers who use Patreon and give access to things like extra camera angles etc.  I think someone like Rob Scallon does the Patreon thing in a non-offensive way.

Agreed man. I started one of these damn things despite my better judgement a year ago and pulled it down after a day for feeling exactly the way you've just described. I mean I think there's a place for it but only if you can provide some kind of value to your participants. In my case I was offering an exclusive print of a piece, but the more I thought about it I thought damn... why do it like this? I could offer the piece just as easily on my own site and cut out the middle man who will take a percentage of whatever I raise. Anyway, I'm enjoying your podcasts. Keep em coming.
