Arrangement of greek traditional song for some music class at Princeton - I think it was instrumentation. Performed by the students of the class. 

Kalokairaki

This piece is a little bit more mainstream than my usual stuff. It was created using the builtin sequencer of a Kurtzweil 2000 around 2003 that only has a tiny digital LCD display. Each track was written on the fly and over dubbed without any editing. At the time I was really fascinated by African rhythms and that shows. 

Rain and mud

Got a midi/usb keyboard and was testing it with Logic. After a few overdubs somewhat to my surprise this short piece came out. Not my usual style but at least it is of reasonable length. 

Technotrancy

Playing with Garage Band and recording on top an acoustic kaval melody. 

Wind

Short excerpt from piece for Orchestra. Not a great recording and orchestra was sight reading but I still like it. Written as part of an orchestration class at Princeton somewhere around 1999. 

Stormy Sea Excerpt

Live performance of me playing soprano saxophone and controlling a real-time phase-vocoder implemented in the Marsyas software framework. Performed at a Mistic (Music Intelligence and Sound Technology Interdisciplinary Collective) concert at the University of Victoria in 2005. The entire setup was running on IBM Thinkpad laptop with a Pentium III processor running Linux. More specifically there are three separately phasevocoded channels as well as a channel that triggers samples. The piece is in sections and switching is done by detecting particular events using real-time pitch extraction. No MIDI is used anywhere and no sound is produced unless the saxophone is played.

The Song of Marsyas (solo soprano saxophone)

George Tzanetakis studied classical saxophone in Athens, Greece with Theodoros Kerkezos and has played in various classical, jazz, folk, and experimental settings. While pursuing his PhD in Computer Science at Princeton he continued his music studies with teachers including Steve Mackey, Kofi Agawu, and Steven Everret. He is a professor in the department of computer science (cross-listed in ECE and Music) at the University of Victoria, Canada. He held a Canada Research Chair (Tier II) in the computer analysis of audio and music from 2010 to 2020 and was awarded the 2011 Craigdaroch Award for Excellence in Artistic Expression. He has been a core member of the LaSaM experimental music ensemble since 2009. He also has participated and performed several times in the
ritual yearly performance in wilderness "And Wolf Shall Inherit the Moon" by R. Murray Schafer. In 2012 he composed and performed a piece (Red + Blue = Purple) for the installation CanonX+4:33=100 by Trimpin.
