Maskar e lumjende

DJ Aldessa (she/her) is a Roma feminist activist from Romania. In 2017 she initiated the 'Manele feministe' theme party as a reaction to the oppressive systems and cultural appropriation towards the ‘manele’ genre produced by the Roma community in her country. At the heart of her DJ sets is the 'feminist intersectional filter,' a curated selection that amplifies unheard voices, challenges norms, and promotes intersectionality on the dance floor. Her work and music extends beyond Romania, as she has collaborated with NGOs and collectives, spreading intersectionality principles and DJed in various spaces in Bucharest and cities, including Berlin, Vienna, and Brussels, where she is currently based.
Aldessa considers music as a powerful political tool and invites us on the dance floor to break stereotypes, reshape perceptions, and move towards equity and justice.
