A small improvisation in Hijaz (Greek: Hitzaz) mode. Trying out a thinner reed on my clarinet. I'm not sure whether I like it or not. The sound is thin as well (though more traditional Greek or Turkish I guess), but on the other hand it seems easier playing quarter notes. The agony of choice :-)

Kokkinia 1955

After fiddling around with my new kaval (Bulgarian flute) for a couple of weeks I decided to record a Bulgarian tune. 
The rhythm is in 22/8 meter divided: 2+2+2+3+2+2+2+3+2+2.
I don't know what's the original name for this tune, but these rhythms are usually called krivo horo, meaning crooked dance.

This is decicated to my dear friend Jeroen, who suffers from the terrible disease A.L.S.
I downloaded a backing track for Stevie ray Vaughan's Tin Pan Alley and just started playing and this is the result.
