Nine conditions of the prayer continued:

The Fourth Condition - Obligations of Wuḍū

– There are six obligations of wuḍū:

1. Washing the face, which includes المضمضة والاستنشاق. The boundaries of the face are from where the hair of the head begins down to the chin and up to the ears.
2. Washing the hands up to and including the elbows.
3. Wiping the entire head which includes the ears.
4. Washing the feet up to the ankles.
5. Maintaining this sequential order.
6. Muwaalaat - Continuous washing of each part of the body for wuḍū in succession.

– The verse in the Qur’an where these points are derived from is in Surah Al-Māidah Ayah 6.
– The Hadith of Prophet ﷺ when he witnesses a man that missed a part of his foot while making wuḍū.
– Going back to explain a point from the previous lesson regarding removing anything that prevents the water from touching the body - Shaykh Muhammad Amān al-Jami رحمه الله
– Explanation of Shaykh ‘Abdul-Muhsin حفظه الله regarding how to make wuḍū.
– The difference between the meaning of wuḍū and waḍū from the narration of the slave of Uthmān رضي الله عنه

– How to perform both the المضمضة والاستنشاق and the ruling of abandoning it.
– Verdicts that should be known regarding wuḍū.
– The number of times that washing is to be carried out in wuḍū.

[Lesson 20 | 06/02/2025] The Conditions, Pillars & Requirements of the Prayer by Abu Idrees. 

The Pillars of the prayer are fourteen.

The main point covered in this lesson:
The Third Pillar: Reciting Surah Al-Fātihah

– The Third Pillar: Reciting Surah Al-Fātihah.
– When the Surah Al-Fātihah should be recited.
– Is it obligatory to recite Surah Al-Fātihah in all units of prayer when praying alone (munfarid) and likewise when following the Imam (ma’mūm).
– The difference of opinion of scholars regarding the ma’mūm (those being led in the prayer) in the loud prayers (Fajr, Maghrib and Isha).
– The reward for praying in congregation in the three sacred mosques.
– The meaning of Al-Fātihah.
– The great virtue and station of Surah Al-Fātihah.
– Having the ability to recite Surah Al-Fātihah.
– An example of an exception when Surah Al-Fātihah has not been recited but the prayer is still correct. 
– The evidence regarding the Imam’s recitation is sufficient for the ma’mūn and what this means.
– Examples from scholars opinions regarding the differing of reciting Surah Al-Fātihah.
– The istiādha - الاستعاذة Seeking refuge from the shaitan before reciting.

– A question regarding reciting Surah Al-Fātihah if a person joins the prayer while the imam is in rukoo, while holding it an obligation that the Fātihah must be recited.
– A question: Does the ma’mūm, recite a Surah after the Fātihah in the quiet prayer.
– A question: Why do the Hanafi’s leave out Fātihah in the Janazah prayer.
– A question regarding the person who has newly entered into Islam.
– A question: Is it allowed to only recite Surah Al-Fātihah and no other Surah.
– A question: Is it sinful to speak over a recording being played of the Qur’an.
