Lixo, the production alias of Alex Hislop, the renowned founder of the influential London party collective GETME!, unveils his latest musical offering. With over two decades of experience and a diverse portfolio of work, Lixo continues to push boundaries and explore new sonic territories.

GETME! has solidified its position as a cornerstone of London’s music scene over the past 15 years, boasting a back catalogue of over twenty records and making appearances on esteemed platforms such as Rinse FM, NTS, Balamii, and BBC Radio 1Xtra. Lixo has collaborated with artists like Trim and Quays, and his previous releases have garnered widespread acclaim earning support from radio heavyweights Benji B, Mary Anne Hobbs, Toddla T, Huw Stephens, Jamz Supernova, and more.

In his latest release, Lixo showcases his versatility by delving into a diverse array of sounds, drawing inspiration from various genres and scenes, and effortlessly navigating different BPMs. From the deep undulating rhythms of ‘Vyvance’ to the rubbery, euphoric synths and hypnotic groove of ‘Wur’, Lixo invites listeners on a journey through an eclectic sonic landscape. Lixo then seamlessly blends syncopated rhythms and twinkling melodies in ‘Start’, before culminating in the irresistibly emotive club-cut, ‘Blop’.

The seventy seventh in our series of guest mixes comes from Rainer Veil aka Liam Morley and Dan Valentine, two friends who met while studying contemporary music in the north of England. The pair began improvising and making drones in a dark basement before incorporating a broader palette and forming Rainer Veil as an ongoing concern last year. Vocals fed through analog delays, samples reworked at the wrong speed and re-sampled to tape for added warmth, all displayed on the great "Stuck"EP, released last year on Modern Love. Enjoy.

Behind the decks you can find her playing everything from techno to hardcore via Italo, Electroclash and other flavours of outsider dance. In demand drummer for Melt Yourself Down and the Owiny Sigoma Band, Tom Skinner, steps out of the spotlight from his recent worldwide successes to rework Kit Grill's track "Velodrome" with an all live set up. Contrasting from the original's very digital tone, Skinny has brought in the help of his previous collaborator, Shabaka Hutchings. Aware that Kit wasn't too keen on having remixes done, Hello Skinny thought it would be more interesting to do a cover version. The idea was to replay some of the core melodic and rhythmic material but rearranged loosely for a more acoustic set up. Hello Skinny started off as a duo between Tom Skinner and clarinetist Shabaka Hutchings so it made sense to go back to this original format for the basis of this cover version.
The whole piece is built around a one-take performance of the main theme from Shabaka on clarinet. A feat of human physical endurance, he manages to maintain the repetition of the part whilst changing the timbre and texture through circular breathing and other extended techniques. We then overdubbed the counter melody and a bass clarinet part. Having the overall shape of the piece, Hello Skinny was able to play a live drum take along to it.
With a bit of extra percussion, liberal use of delay and some distortion the track was taken to close friend and collaborator Chris Morphitis to mix. The whole piece was bounced to 8-track tape and mixed to 2-track tape utilizing his beautiful Studer desk and gorgeous plate reverb. Job done.

Lixo and Quays come together for their first joint EP 'Ida'. The project could have almost never happened; a fan of Quays' music, Lixo always presumed the producer to be New-York based. Upon finding out Quays actually lived just down the road in London, the GETME! head honcho invited him over to DJ at his nights, eventually leading to the pair sharing music, sketches and collaborating on 'Ida'.

Lixo and Quays meet in a gorgeous sweet spot where repurposed pop scraps permeate the ghosts of UK bass culture, tender melodies and sampled vocals pushing through dark and melancholic undercurrents. Ceremonial chanting is processed to a moody breaking point on EP opener 'I Can't'. Deconstructed garage is infused with glitch and eerie tension on 'Anxiety' and 'Infighting'. The club grinds to a halt on 'VV' and the EPs elevating highlight 'Need U', while closing track 'Fiver' captures a digital and euphoric sound destined for massive surroundings. Lixo & Quays let loose with a sound that's sparse and brimming with character and feeling.

The pair's liberal composition process and juxtaposition of personalities results in a sonic mesh that gives the EP a familiar feel, while its edges are a clear product of experimentation. Guest mix number 105 comes from Chicago's Jana Rush. By the time she was 13 she had started producing, and before she turned 18, she had already released a split 12” with ghetto house DJ Deeon and a solo record called Wicked. She counted Paul Johnson as a mentor and DJ Rashad as one of her peers. "Pariah", Rush’s recently released debut LP, arrives over 20 years since her first release, and in that time she’s been a firefighter, a CAT scan technician, and a chemical engineer at an oil refinery. Rush is known for her unique take on footwork and continues to explore the the many tangents, influences and aesthetics of Chicago's rich dance music heritage.

Lil Jabba is a creator, possessing immense skills and artistry clearly demonstrated in both his visual and audio work. His profession in the latter has been acclaimed since his early releases, where he successfully delved into the realms of juke and footwork, producing tunes that took the genres to a new level. Since then, the producer has gone on to develop a sound distinct to himself, touching on ways in which he can blend his vast sound palette as seen in his recent projects released via Local Action.

For his first release on GETME!, Lil Jabba provides a six track mini LP that keeps us on our toes, unaware of what to expect next. It takes its listeners into positively weird places, combining aspects from dub, jungle and UK garage to produce sounds unrecognisable to any genre, yet well-fitting. Additionally, he presents us with tracks that are mentally stimulating in their dynamic and intense breaks, also offering songs which exhibit ambiguous dimensions.

Since 2013’s footwork-heavy Scales LP, the producer has accepted his solitary ways. Firmly based in his studio in Brooklyn where he makes music and paints. Mizo beats a retreat into this world, a strange and swampy domain into which familiar dance styles are lured and devoured one gulp at a time.

GM Guest mix one hundred and thirty five comes from Maria Teriaeva, the Siberian-born, Moscow-based musician and composer. She uses the Buchla modular synthesizer as a framework for her music combining it with acoustic instruments and voice. Her latest LP 'Conservatory Of Flower' sees Teriaeva blending Buchla compositions with analogue instrumentation, including trumpet, saxophone, cello and flute.
