176 - Northern Exposure by Sasha & John Digweed - Disc 2 (1996)

Hello everyone and WELCOME! Yes, Il Modo returns with our 43rd Exclusive Series session, back after a winter hiatus. As we celebrate St Patrick's this week, we are thrilled to bring our listeners our third mix this month from the homeland of Ireland.

And have we saved the best till last, a STUNNING vinyl only set from Casper, Irelands original superstar DJ who treats us  to tunes from 1996 to 2004. 

A true innovator of Ireland’s underground, Casper has been immersed in electronic music culture since 1992. He cut his teeth promoting some of the earliest raves in the country before stepping behind the decks in 1994. 

By 1995, he had secured residencies at Dublin institutions like The Shaft, Zoo Club and Grouchos, later holding down slots at legendary venues such as Thompsons Garage, The Parliament, The Boom Boom Rooms, and Love at the Blue Zone.

His sound has resonated far beyond Irish shores, landing him a residency at Bash in South Beach, Miami, alongside appearances at The Shadow Lounge and Liquid between 1996 and 1999. Back home, Casper left his mark on iconic spaces including Red Box, The System Nightclub, Temple Theatre, and the Chocolate Bar.

From 2013 to 2020, Casper was one half of the progressive/tech duo Phraktal. Their output earned critical acclaim, including seven Beatport Top 10s and the album Why 1 is One and 2 is Two, which drew support from taste-makers like Nick Warren, Charlie May, Danny Tenaglia, Roland Klinkenberg, and Trancesetters.

Today, Casper is a resident at the annual Pitch in Fest, known for his expansive 6-hour journeys through Ambient, Electronica, Downtempo, Organic and Progressive House. His sets are immersive, emotionally intelligent, and deeply atmospheric — threading hypnotic rhythms with textured sound design to create lasting resonance long after the last track fades. 

For his second stint with Il Modo, Casper reaches deep into the archives with a brilliantly curated 2 hour VINYL ONLY mix. Capturing those truly hedonistic moments in Irish and global club culture, come with us on a journey back through time, as he sets out to rekindle the memories that only the rave can.

Hailing from the North West UK, Ger Zinio has been a staple in the electronic music scene since 1992. Inspired by the high-energy mixing of icons like Carl Cox and Jeremy Healy, Ger began his journey in the early rave and house scenes. By the mid-90s, his style had shifted to darker, more progressive sounds, shaped by influences such as Nick Warren, Anthony Pappa, Sasha, and John Digweed.

In 1999, Ger relocated to Dublin, Ireland, diving into a vibrant club scene. He became a fixture at renowned venues, including the iconic Temple Theatre, Ormonde Dublin, and the GPO in Galway. His presence earned him weekly and monthly residencies on prominent platforms such as Radio4by4 and Progressive Heaven, where he shared his evolving sound with dedicated listeners.

Today, Ger’s mixes are celebrated across the global progressive house community, with recent features on the Progressive House Classics blog. His popular podcast, Purple Haze Sessions, airs regularly on a lineup of respected internet radio stations, including Subcode, Super Progressive, KDK DJ's, Progressive House UK, Sonar Bliss Radio Belfast, RTE PULSE's Back 2 Basics, Mixpub Radio, Inferno Radio, Chicago Youth Radio, So What! Radio, ODH Radio, and Report2Dancefloor. Evolving the timeless Journey
When GU013 Ibiza arrived in September 1999, Sasha’s selections from his Space Ibiza sets etched themselves into the fabric of global club culture. The originals spoke with clarity: Deep Progress in its uncut form, Mercury & Solace in its soaring trance guise, Stage One as a milestone of cinematic progression. Each track was placed with precision, creating an arc that felt both inevitable and untouchable.
This 2025 reconstruction takes that same map and redraws the contours. Where Sasha placed the originals, here alternate versions step forward. Raff n Freddy’s Deep Progress returns, but reshaped through a Mosho edit — sharper, more insistent. Zoe, once heard in its classic trance cut, now glows with Chris Cargo’s private remix. BT’s Mercury & Solace is no longer the anthem as-was, but a re-edit that bends its edges into something more elusive.
Some classics take on whole new skins: Perception reworked with Ruhe’s subtle touch, Heaven Scent lifted into Marsh’s widescreen palette, Xpander expanded again through Axel V’s mind-expansion. Even cornerstones like Stage One and Dreamstate branch into alternate realities — edits and remixes that tilt the familiar sky into new colors.
The differences are not jolts but tangents: quiet deviations that send the listener into unexpected spaces. The sequence still flows with the DNA of Ibiza ’99, but the journey is threaded with detours — edits, B-sides, and reinterpretations that Take you into a familiar space but another dimension.
