A one-hour selection by @nicolas-jaar aired first on May 15th, 2021 as part of the Sonic Liberation Front on @radioalhara, an initiative for Palestine by a group of audio platforms and sound artists who came together to unify their sound for Palestine and protest against the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people.

"Hello,
 
Thank you for inviting me to be here today. 

These are difficult days and it is difficult to express the feelings that I have inside. 

We have seen the horrors of Israeli occupation. We have seen the hypocrisy of the European and American media. We have heard the silence of our peers. And we have felt the screams inside Al Aqsa, in Sheikh Jarrah, in Gaza, in Haifa, in Jaffa, in Lydda. But this is only news to those who don't know. 
In reality, this is nothing new. 

The past 2 weeks have been a microcosm for the past 20 years, the past 40 years years, the past 70 years. 

The Israeli government is a racist settler colonial project committed to the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people. The legacies of systemic violence, racism and dispossession shaped by colonialism must stop. 

Today this means standing up and signaling clearly our support, our solidarity and our love for Palestine. Complicity with Israeli war crimes is found in silence and we cannot tolerate silence. 

As I speak something else is happening in another part of the world that is also very close to my heart. Chileans are right now electing  155 citizens who will write a new constitution for the country. It will replace the constitution that has been in place since the years of the military dictatorship. This constitution will be the first anywhere in the world to be written by an equal number of men and women. The only reason this moment of hope is possible in Chile is because of the incredible social movements that rose up to tell truth to power, to tell the story of life in the face of death. 
The courage and determination of Chilean activists, writers, artists has been astounding. I am sure many of them are inspired and influenced by the courage of Palestinians living under occupation. 

These social movements are creating change, and the forces of Empire are having a difficult time trying to control this change. When we see Israel bombing the tower that houses AP and Al Jazeera in Gaza, we understand that this war is being waged on multiple fronts. Journalism is one of them. Art and music is also one. 

So thank you for this initiative Radio Alhara and Recordat. 

This mix is different from any mix I've ever played. 

I'm gonna play a mix I made for myself, never meant to be shared. It's the music I play to feel better, in some ways it's my own kind of therapy, it gives me hope that life can always shine in the dark."

Conversation between artist Jakob Jakobsen and curator Lisa Rosendahl about Jakobsen's contribution to the exhibition After Monoculture, which is closing on Sunday 18 June. Jakobsen's work seeks to make visible the violent roots of contemporary Western mental health care focussed solely on the individual, searching instead for collective approaches and ways to understand illness as societal and relational.

I andet afsnit af KORET får vi besøg af Clarissa Connelly, en dansk-skotsk sanger og komponist, der for nylig udgav albummet World of Work. Vi taler om hendes forhold til kanontraditionen og fællessange, og hvilken betydning de har for hendes solistpraksis. Hun fortæller om længslen efter flere hverdagsritualer, og om hvordan det at skrive kanonsange til flere stemmer også er en modstand mod det individualiserede samfund.

Forfatter Fine Gråbøl er vildt draget af kor. Kor er lyden af fællesskaber, de mangfoldige og de disciplinerede, de besværlige og de ensrettede, de guddommelige og de kropslige. Kormusik er så enkelt og intimt, og samtidig så overjordisk i sin lyd. Der skal ikke mere til end stemmer.

I podcastserien KORET inviterer forfatter Fine Gråbøl en række kunstnere, sangere, musikere og komponister ind til en samtale om korets betydning, og hvilke typer af lydlige fællesskaber kor skaber eller besværliggør.

Andreas Führer har en grundlæggende undren over et meget centralt moment i musicals: Hvad sker der lige dér, hvor folk holder op med at tale og i stedet bryder ud i sang? Spørgsmålet er genstand for hans værk "Dynamics of fluids in porous media" og for dette program, hvor vi besøger ham i en lille flække lidt uden for Silkeborg. Undervejs overgiver vi os til Führers univers og tankegang, til 30’er-musicalen "The Wizard of Oz" og til den amerikanske komponist Robert Ashley, som spøger lidt i kulissen.

SOLW - Pines

Tell, No Show er en programserie i seks afsnit om Kunst, hvor en række af samtidens billedkunstnere udfolder et værk efter eget valg.

I dette første afsnit skal du møde Benedikte Bjerre, der vil introducere til og tolke på den franske maler Marcel Duchamps berømte og berygtede værk The Given fra 1966, som viste sig at være det sidste værk fra hans hånd. Vi rejser sammen gennem Philadelphia ind i en kukkasse med et kvindelig og en mordgåde og ankommer i drejebogen til kultserien Twin Peaks. 

Programmet er klippet og tilrettelagt af Jan Høgh Stricker fra The Lake Radio og Andreas Führer fra Institut Funder Bakke. En stor, varm tak til Benedikte Bjerre og til Statens Kunstfond for økonomisk støtte.
