Note: A Byzantine, Orthodox Monk excavated a copy of Claudius Ptolemy’s greatest manuscript, "Geographia" or Geography, believed to have perished in the fire of The Library of Alexandria. Along with its sibling treatise, The Almagest, it was composed in Greek, 2nd century AD and housed in the great Library. A copy of the manuscript in Arabic was recovered in 1295 in Constantinople, the market of the world. The monk transcribed the treatise from Arabic to Latin and since it was incomplete, without it’s original maps, he redrew the world based upon its coordinates.

Recently, I was invited to read at an evening of poetry dedicated to Emily Dickinson. The event was entitled, “Words Can Do It”. The group of poets and translators included A.E. Stallings, Adrianne Kalphopoulou, myself and others which lent our voices and perspectives to honor Emily Dickinson and her poetry. Among the poems I read, were “Aurora from the Book of Nature”
