This is second half of Part 1 of Samuel Coleridge Taylor's famous poem 'Rime of the Ancient Mariner'. In this section, the mariner is describing being stranded in Antarctica having been blown off course. He spots an albatross tracking the ship, but in a fit of frustration shoots it with his crossbow!

This piece was premiered by a student ensemble on 9th March 2022 at the Victoria Rooms, Bristol as part of Contemporary Music Venture.

Some of you might be wondering what the hell's going on at the end. So, all thirty of these tracks are each made in under 24 hours, most in under 12. "trifecta" took JUST under 24 hours, and I was running out of time. However, the idea was to imply that now that this album's finished, "I'm just getting started". This is why you hear an orchestra tuning near the end. The final abstract sounds are supposed to represent what's to come.

Fun fact, the ten tracks in THIRTY三十 add up to exactly (to the sample) 30 minutes of music.

Having studied at Wells Cathedral School with Paul Whitmarsh (compos.), I have graduated from Bristol University with a First Class Honours in Music (BA), where I was principal cellist of the Symphony Orchestra, conductor of the Chamber Orchestra, and I ran the weekly meetings for the Composition Society.
