A B O U T T H E L Y R I C S :
At its essence, ‘Nevertheless’ is a song of defiance, but also of realistic appreciation of the difficulties that exist in bleak times.
With a main lyric borrowed from Orwell ‘double-speak’ - which describes deliberately euphemistic, ambiguous, or obscure language - ‘Nevertheless’ is looks towards self-assurance, in a time when meaning is malleable.

The concept of the ‘Uncanny Valley’ was identified in the 1970s by the robotics professor Masahiro Mori – and is illustrated in the form of
a graph marking the varying degrees to which we hold empathy to humanoid-like objects. When they appear almost, but not exactly, like real human beings, they elicit an uncanny, or strangely familiar, feelings of eeriness and
revulsion in observers – at which point the graph dips (into a valley) by comparison to replicating characteristics which otherwise increase the graph.
The lyrics in this song, draw on this imagery, in a self-reflecting look at the role that technology and social media in particularly plays in the narrator’s life - potentially distracting them from real experiences.

A B O U T   T H E   L Y R I C S :

Mantle is best described as a song of ‘projection’ and ‘reflection’. A number of narratives are in play throughout the lyrics – but all converge on the edging possibility of a breakdown of a relationship, unless action is taken. The central
story of the lyrics, is that of a couple on the verge of a break-up - in which the narrator suggests (whether they be symptoms of their own projections, or ghostly intervention) that their house is ‘trying to tell them something’. This is also an allusion to climate change – and the time that continues to pass in which actions should be taken, in response to the warnings that earth/’home’ is trying to give.

The final line has a sense of ambiguity - it could be a hopeful look towards the future following are evaluation and second change at the relationship - or a mournful exclamation of a subject who has accepted failure, and the continuing struggle to get it right.

As global relations continue to evolve in unexpected, but sometimes cyclical ways - ‘Plume’ is inspired by the imagery conveyed in first-hand accounts from nuclear bomb witnesses. The absurdity of the continued existence of nuclear-arms, as well as the irrationality of the sights and physical effects, that they have the potential to create, are reflected in the main phrase of ‘all the things I’m seeing, make no sense to me’. The final repetitive call of ‘is there anyone out there who’s still listening?’ is deliberately blurred, to allude
to two possibilities - one that this call is a warning for disarming before it’s too late, and the second could be a post-fallout communication.

‘Gyre’ focuses on ocean-pollution; particularly inspired by the Great Pacific Garbage Patch Gyre – a vortex of trash floating halfway between Hawaii and California, characterised by high relative concentrations of plastic, chemical sludge and other debris that have been trapped by the currents of the North Pacific Gyre.

The lyrics include a number of allusions to mythical sea-creatures - sitting starkly next to the honest reflections of the main subject, whose pessimistic exclamations in the main hook, are as much cry of self-reflection, as a call of warning to others.

On Friday 23/11/18, Irish, Indie-Electonica band, 'Ghetto Amaretto', released their new e.p. - ‘Oll Korrect’ - 5-tracks created via the internet, by two bandmates who now live 5,000 kms, and a 5-hour time-difference, apart. Without ever sharing the same room (or continent) since the writing process began five months prior to the release, vocalist Chris Falconer, and instrumentalist & producer, Conor Dalton (Scew), evolved email ex-changes into the 5 new songs that make up the ‘Oll Korrect’ e.p..

The words ‘Oll Korrect’ are the likely foundation of the modern phrase ‘O.K.’ – which began in Boston in 1838, where a group used abbreviated expressions and exaggerated misspellings (‘oll korrect’, being ‘all correct’) as part of a fad of the time – it was, to an extent, an early case of ‘meme culture’. The wording has been adopted for the name of this e.p., as it reflects a sarcastic, but hopeful, reflection on the phrase ‘everything is going to be O.K.’ - a sentiment which characterises subjects covered over the course of the 5 songs - including ocean pollution, political unease, and the expanding role of technology - and other things that might you exclaim the phrase...
