この3年でUKベース・ミュージックを経由しながら爆発的に認知を広げ、最近ではKode 9主宰の〈Hyper Dub〉がシーンの注目株Dj Rashadをリリース、日本ではベースはもちろんヒップホップなど隣接するシーンを巻き込みながら新境地を迎え、一部では"未来的"過ぎると批判を受けるなど、着実に拡張し続けるジューク / フットワークのシーンにまたしても問題作となる一枚が〈Planet Mu〉より。ジュークの発展系、ダンス・バトルに特化したスタイル “フットワーク”のオリジネーターと言われるRP Booのデビュー・アルバムとなる本作、フットワークの肝である３連を基調とした簡素なドラム・マシーンのレイヤーとシンコペーションによる複雑で大胆なリズムワークに、コラージュにも近いアプローチでラップような自身のボイスとサンプリングを催眠的にすり込ませ、テクノにも似たドライでミニマルな唯一無二の驚異的なグルーヴを披露。 ハウス、ゲットー・ハウス、ジュークと流れ、4/4を基調とした従来のダンス・ミュージックでは満足出来なくなったダンサーへの挑戦であり、ベース、ヒップホップ、ビートだけでなく、今やダンス・ミュージックの枠をはみ出しフリージャズや即興にもトラックが使われるなど、ダンスの更なる高みを目指したブラック・マシーン・ミュージックの結晶と言えるハイプなしの一枚です！

▼  アールピー・ブー  バイオグラフィー  

本名カバイン・スペース。シカゴの西部で生まれ、80年代に南部へと移住し、 多くのジューク / フットワークのパイオニアと同じようにシカゴ・ハウス / ジュークの伝説的なダンス一派House -O-Maticsの洗礼を受け、〈Dance Mania〉から数多くのクラシックスを生み出したゲットー・ハウスのパイオニアDj Deeon、Dj MiltonからDjを、Dj Slugoからはプロデュースを学び、それまであったRolandのドラム・サウンドの全てにアクセス、またパンチインを可能にした、現在も使い続けるRoland R-70をメインの機材にしながらトラックを作り始め、1997年に作られた‘Baby Come On’はフットワークと呼ばれるスタイルを固めた最初のトラックであり、その後1999年に作られたゴジラのテーマをチョップしたゴジラ・トラックとして知られる‘11-47-99’はシーンのアンセムとなり、数多くのフットワークのトラックに共通する無秩序にシンコペートするリズム・パターンはRP Booのトラックに起因すると言われる。〈Planet Mu〉よりリリースのフットワーク・コンピレーション『Bangs & Works Vol.1』(2010)、『Bangs & Works Vol.2』(2011)に収録され、今年デビューとなるアルバムを同レーベルより発表。フットワークの肝である３連を基調とした簡素なドラム・マシーンのレイヤーとシンコペーションによる複雑かつ大胆なリズムワークに、コラージュにも近いアプローチでラップような自身のボイスとサンプリングを催眠的にすり込ませ、テクノにも似たドライでミニマルな唯一無二の驚異的なグルーヴを披露。ジュークのゴッド・ファーザーTraxman、そしてキングのDJ Rashadを含めシーンの誰もが崇めるフットワークの神的存在。

Ghettophiles is not just a record label, it’s an artist collective.  Some of us don’t know how to produce tracks, some of us don’t know how to dj, some of us don’t know how to type, and some of us don’t know how to do anything besides blog.  We’re all about local scenes, and making sure that whether or not they get international attention, the leaders, innovators, creators, and legends of each community are able to have sustained love and support from their own community.  Right now, we’ve got a lot of Juke, Footwork, and a lil bit of Jersey Club.  We’re going to have more, but also some ghetto tech,  dub, moombahton, and of course since we’re from chicago, house music.
