Vocal Deep House Track

This one is probably the most interesting song on the spotlights e.p. This song is closely linked to Still Life In Rewind, the two songs are twins, but very different.

Still Life In Reverse is based around the exact same piano performance. Except in this song the piano is heard, as the title suggests, in reverse. This means the two songs have the same structure, and are even the exact same length. The same vocals were used, cut and spliced about. Its a nice bit of luck that they ended up sounded great in reverse too!

The backwards piano creates a hypnotic sound as it rises and falls. It made for a nice dance song I think. And contrary to what some people have said, It wasn't a happy remix accident. The piano piece was deliberately written so that it would sound good going forwards and backwards.

Still Life In Reverse

Dark, bitter, vocal triphop.

Ths song is built around the bassline. The drums are pure driving triphop. They only get bigger and more industrial as the delay increases during the mid-song breakdown. The sparse lead synths and guitars add atmosphere to the track, while the bitter lyrics reflect on this dark, dense sound.

Altogether is makes for what I'd call an intense song. I could imagine the breakdown fitting perfectly in a film, leading up to the point where a likeable characters dies... very happy song all round.

Vocal Triphop cover

This is a reinvention of the hippie classic, Somebody to love by Jefferson Airplane. Our version slows the song right down, spaces out the guitar lines and uses deep synthetic bass. All these elements make it a lot more mellow and relaxing than the original. Its a Gin and tonic song now.

Theres a lot going on in this song. Its the most layered song on the spotlights e.p. All sorts of drum sounds get triggered, there's several interludes, and we even have a rhodes piano solo in the middle. The layering really makes it work. It makes this very slow song interesting and engaging because there's so many different sounds for your ear to pick up on.
