LIVE Performance - EP#14 Blackalicious - "Deception"

Shallow

This track feels like a gentle correction, a soft-spoken sermon wrapped in funk. The groove is slow and smooth, with that old-school gospel funk warmth, organ chords rolling easy, bassline walking steady like a father teaching his children.

Where “Among the Elohim” was judgment heavy, this song softens into wisdom. The tone is not harsh or condemning, but patient, reminding the Elohim that their role was never to rule, never to preach down, but to carry, protect, and guide. The choir hums behind like ancestors nodding in agreement, while the lead voice speaks with the calm authority of experience.

The sound is tender yet firm, like being corrected by someone who loves you too much to let you fail. It carries the humility of gods who admit they can stumble, and the higher truth that even divinity is fallible next to the Most High.

It’s funk that feels like scripture, a lesson sung with grace, reminding Elohim that true power is in bearing burdens, not building thrones.
