Exclusively for you today, we are pleased to premiere the Rebecca Vasmant Vibration Mix of “Anansi” by Bristol six-piece Dundundun, a sublime melting pot of celestial jazz, Afro Latin rhythms, electronic grooves and uplifting vocals.

Vasmant’s remix is taken from Dundundun’s debut self-titled EP, forthcoming on Worm Discs, the label-arm of lynchpin Bristol promoters & Glastonbury curators Worm Disco Club. An equal love of African and Latin rhythms, alongside jazz and electronic music is evident across the EP’s original tracks, “Anansi” and the synth-bass-meets-Afrobeat Sun Ra version, “Dun In Outer Space”, released earlier this year.

Dundundun’s members have played with the likes of The Heavy, Alice Russell, Pete Josef, DJ Die and Dele Sosimi, providing ample experience across genres, ancient to future, to create adventurous new shapes full of thunderous bass, crowd-calling beats, electric synths and dirty horn riffs.

Renowned Glaswegian selector and Worldwide FM resident Rebecca Vasmant puts a cosmic and soulful spin on “Anansi”, inviting award winning vocalist, kitti, AKU’s Harry Weir on bass clarinet and saxophone solo, and the harpist Amanda Whiting, member of Matthew Halsall’s Gondwana Orchestra, with her own eagerly awaited album imminent on Jazzman Records, to sprinkle ample amounts of their own magic to proceedings. 

Jackson Lapes, member of both Dundundun and Worm Discs, tells us “we’d been following Rebecca for ages but then finally met at We Out Here 2019 and struck up a really good friendship. We’ve been up to Glasgow a few times to hang out and she was the obvious choice for us to invite to record this remix. There’s a proper Bristol-Glasgow connection going on right now so it feels like a real family thing!”.

For Rebecca the love was mutual. “After meeting The Worm Disco guys at We Out Here last summer, and becoming friends, musical family is so valued especially in times like these, and the guys are absolutely one of the lights in life that have happened since last year. It made absolute sense to team up on this, with our small city Glasgow-Bristol connection keeping us tight. I look forward to many more collaborations to come, and am super excited for what is to come.”

Bristolian promoters Worm Disco Club have been championing South-Western talent since their inception in 2014. Having collaborated with Glastonbury Festival on their notorious ‘Wormhole’ stage and hosted the likes of The Comet Is Coming, The Heliocentrics and The Mauskovic Dance Band at their regular club night, their name has become synonymous with quality groove laden goodness, percussive madness, jazz, psych and beyond.

In one of the world’s sadly most aging-male dominated scenes, Rebecca Vasment has helped to rejuvenate the jazz world, from Glasgow to London and beyond and introduced countless fans to the freedom principles of jazz, whilst becoming the biggest champion of Glasgow’s homegrown jazz talent. Also on the EP, you'll find Ishamel Ensemble's dark, fast paced and deeply textured reworking of ‘Dun In Outer Space’. All in all making this an essential and exciting EP. Released on March 19th on vinyl and digital.

Both songs form part of the jazz musician’s debut album ‘Descent To The Centre’, a record that is an autobiographical and existentialist account of oneself, blending the electric/psychedelic spectrum of jazz with house, avant-garde and ambient leanings.

We are excited to premiere the beautiful and epic "Child - Part IV" by London's incredible Levitation Orchestra, forthcoming on Gearbox Records.

We swooped at the opportunity to premiere one of our favourite cuts from the forthcoming album by  Levitation Orchestra on Gearbox Records. We have been HUGE fans since their debut LP on Astigmatic and their phenomenal live show at London's Church of Sound.

Founded in 2018 by trumpet player & musical director Axel Kaner-Lidstrom, Levitation Orchestra was formed with the shared goal to create original suites of music completely collectively. A large, ever-changing ensemble, abundant in energy & focus, their captivating compositions truly come to life in the band's explosive live performances.


Words from Levitation Orchestra: "Child part IV" is the final part of a suite of music about childhood, lineage and loss. We were wrestling with illusions and realities around our perceptions of ourselves and how we could be just a grain of sand in a desert or a single thread in the ever-growing tapestry of the universe. But perhaps, through ancestry and dependency we could be linked with a greater cycle of being. How connected are we to those who came before and who will come after? "Part IV", the culmination of the suite, brings forward motifs of bright, new life, and sorrow and loss. Two parts of the cycle that are inextricably interwoven."

"Child - Part IV" is released on September 22nd. The album, 'Illusions & Realities', sees release on double-LP vinyl (including a limited Japanese edition with obi strip), CD and digital, on October 29.

World-renowned drummer/composer, & producer/beatmaker, Myele Manzanza, has proved that he’s an artist who continues to dissolve the borders between modern jazz and electronic beat production.

Tapping into the vibrant scene of his adopted home, Myele now readies his next project on London-based label DeepMatter. ‘Crisis & Opportunity’ Vol.1 – London features a top tier cast of young London based talent including Ashley Henry (piano), James Copus (trumpet), George Crowley (tenor saxophone), Benjamin Muralt (bass) and additional contributions from the legendary Mark de Clive-Lowe (synths), with Myele leading on drums.

'This track is really a shout out to the team at Jazz Re:Freshed. A rag-tag group of passionate music aficionados that for a decade or so hosted some of London and the world’s best musicians at Mau Mau bar on Portobello Rd in Notting Hill and really help bring a London jazz sound to the world. As a young music student back in New Zealand I discovered (through Myspace no-less) the music of Kaidi Tatham and by extension a whole scene of musicians that were pulling together a unique blend of jazz and dance music that we came to know as Broken Beat. My life was never the same since. I wanted to have something on this record that went some way to capturing that energy of a sweaty dance floor with musicians just raging out on some broken beat jazz funk vibes.'

MIMS is excited to premiere this absolute JAM from emerging artist Raquel Martins. Strong neo soul meets Brazilian inclined jazz from the London-based singer, guitarist and songwriter Raquel Martins.

21 years old singer/songwriter and guitarist Raquel Martins moved to London when she was only 17. The need to express herself through music appeared at a younger age while she was growing up in Portugal. Raised under the sun, she grew up listening to the endless classics from the Brazilian and jazz repertoire, but it was only when she discovered the world of contemporary hip hop, soul and jazz music that she realised she could create something new with all the sounds she had been absorbing over the years.

Influenced by the likes of Hiatus Kaiyote, Amy Winehouse and Brazilian artists Djavan, Milton Nascimento and João Gilberto, her music takes you on a reflective journey through themes such as personal development, purpose and individuality.

While "Real", her debut single, was an ode to new beginnings and to the pursuit of personal identity, "Freedom" portraits the moment where one realises they are no longer going in the right direction. This track describes the process of trying to free yourself from the people and old patterns that are making you drift away from your path. It’s the seek of peace of mind when you realise that you are becoming disconnected from yourself.

Self-released, "Freedom" will be available to stream from February 5th on all streaming platforms, plus download via Bandcamp.
