Solid Steel (1st November) Having announced that Four Tet will be joining the line up for the Solid Steel 25th Anniversary night at Fire in London on 6th Dec, we now hand over the decks to him for a 2 Hour exclusive mix. 
Four Tet's history with the show extends back to his first mix in 2001 and part of the Solid Steel US Tour that year with DJ Food, DK and Bonobo. He was also the first guest at the monthly Solid Steel club night in 2004, with more mixes to follow and his music has been consistently played on the show. 

As with all our 25th Anniversary guests, we asked for something different and here's what he said about his mix;

"This mix is made from unofficial edits and mixes.  I guess these edits were mainly made to be played in clubs and I've always like the tradition of DJs extending and rearranging to make things work in their sets.  Most of the edits here are unreleased because they are just tools for DJs really.  The Black Unity one was done for the Solid Steel US tour that I did in 2001.  Thanks to Daphni, Floating Points and Happa for the edits I got from them."

After KRTS toured his successful LP The Dread of an Unknown Evil, left with only one pair of boots and a few spare clothes of baggage, @KRTS obtained his visa and began a new life as The Foreigner in Germany.

The Foreigner is looking through an alien's eyes from the first step of landing on new soil. The outsider position - Not knowing the language, direction, new set of rules, personalities, and learning how to become a part of a new society.

KRTS's often approach to music creation normally follows zero rules and boundaries of genres. This time, KRTS welds together influences of genres but, places them in a bubble of hard hitting Boom-Bap HipHop percussions, thumping bass-lines, and combines a melodramatic set of layered vocals sung by KRTS with rows of melodies that weave in and out creating various atmospheres within one song. As if creating different cities inside one country.

"The glow of the sun peeked out over mounds of snow, the flakes falling faintly, silver and dark. In this haze I saw Berlin for the first time: gray upon gray, the new world transplanted into the old. There were people of all sorts—specks of color shifting among shades of black—taking bottles from the local späti—sometimes even their own silverware—onto the streets, into the open air. I observed the bustle of Kottbusser Tor and the swarms protesting for equality, fists raised in unison, chanting a language both odd and familiar. Aged locals, youthful hipsters, dirty punks, and hippies all gathered around a street market filled with vendors selling Turkish, German, and African cuisines. The smells were as intoxicating as the strangeness, the allure of those unfamiliar tastes.

I let my guard down. I saw a cop and for once I didn't recoil at the thought of being picked out for a stop-and-frisk. My breathing slowed; I thought about past loves. Then I picked up my pace to a run.

At the sunrise I pause, still, sometimes, on the bridge near the U-Bahn at Warschauer Strasse. This is not my home. Here, for the first time in my life, I am the foreigner."

Doug has been DJing and producing records for two decades under various aliases and collaborations. The ‘Rabble’ EP will be the third release for An-i, and the first one since Gutz in 2015. The return of An-i has found him in even more brazen territory than on previous releases. He moves between musicality and chaos while remaining intriguing throughout – a testament to his uniqueness and integrity. The opener, ‘Rabble’, tonally crude and menacing, backed with a relentless primitive machine rhythm and a psychotic vocal parodying mob mentality, points at the absurdity of take-down culture. ‘Rubble’ follows, a mighty stripped-down instrumental dub. The flip, ‘Chapel Perilous’, is a wandering spaced-out journey into the psyche. Sonically, the Swedish duo SHXCXCHCXSH distort the club context they work from by rendering functionality with an exceptionally refined and idiosyncratic palette. As logophiles, they contort the little descriptive context they afford audiences by imploding language into splintered and barely comprehensible character sequences. The impression is that each is the result of mutual process-driven experiments. 
This is all true of '......t', their new album and debut recording for Northern Electronics. However, working at this scale, SHXCXCHCXSH play with wider parameters and explore broader functions to produce their most comprehensive and focused work to date.

Kicking off the New Year with Yerevan-based DJ and producer yutani and his latest EP, Dead Whales. This four-track release explores ritualistic, esoteric electronica, crafted using a combination of DAW production and field recordings. Active in the music scene since 2020, yutani has released tracks on labels like Ferma, Get Busy, and many others.

Dead Whales is a sonic journey filled with rhythms and textures designed to evoke an esoteric atmosphere, drawing inspiration from yutani's childhood memories. The EP's title track incorporates whale sounds that are eerie and otherworldly, a choice so striking it inspired the EP’s name. In “Dle Yaman,” yutani weaves the vocals of legendary Armenian folk singer Hayrik Muradyan, performing the traditional song “Dle Yaman,” into his composition.
