Ahead of the work we are doing with Detroit veteran Craig Gonzalez this year, here is a mix he’s done exploring new rhythms and soundscapes. We thought it would be prudent to share a mix of one of his many fresh perspectives, where he explores something we at IT find very compelling — new juxtapositions of polyrhythms and drum and bass within a deeply hypnotic techno context. 

"I’ve really been enjoying exploring the sonic space between techno and drum and bass. What excites me about this fusion is how it challenges both myself and fans of these genres, as it often defies the expectations of each. The introduction of polyrhythms takes it even further, pushing the boundaries and making the music feel truly genre-agnostic. In this space, the emphasis shifts away from traditional structures, focusing more on rhythm and context than on genre conventions.

This mix is a studio recording rather than a live set from an IT event because I feel that this style of music requires a more intentional approach to the context of an event. It hasn’t quite aligned with the atmosphere of my time slots—at least, not for now." — Craig Gonzalez @craig-gonzalez

Ive chosen to share it now to celebrate 30 years since the movie's release. Psychadelic space and 80s classics mix (Edit..ehem) because who needs to hear two whole verses of Kim Wilde nowadays?!?

Originally released in 2005 "A mix of everything you thought you heard".  There is a piece from every release I ever put out from 1992 to 2002 in this mix from a UCLA art student cd release, an underground rap compilation cassette,  J5, Ozomatli, mix cds with Shadow, remixes, etc...its all in there. I encourage folks to identify any piece you can.. Ill help with the hard ones.

A rural psych folk and rock selection by Hymnal (Whats The Altitude) and myself. This mix was created last year around this time to give thanks to the harvest of music that was recorded here in this country. Hymnal is the one of the deepest collectors of this genre. American Pie: Fall Backwards

Central American born Silent Servant has performed worldwide in clubs from LA, Berlin to Osaka. A chance meeting with Karl O'Conner in 1999 would establish a friendship that would open the door to the Sandwell District label in 2006. Silent Servant's sound is a reinterpretation of early '80s post-punk electronics, paired with the deep, metallic sounds of Basic Channel and Downwards.
