The absolutely pure formless Maheshwar is the lord of deities who can save a living being from the jaws of death restoring him to health and vigor. Markandeya, the son of Rishi Markand was destined to be short-lived. He was advised by the Rishis to chant the Mahamrityunjay Mantra in a Shiv Mandir. Markandeya respecting the advice of the sages, commence the chanting of the Mantra. In due course, Yamraj, the lord of death appeared before hymn. But who can harm the person who is under the protection of Mrityunjaya. Yamraj left Markandeya. Markandeya attained a long life and composed the Markandeya Puran. 

Oh Mrityunjay Mahadev, I'm trapped in the web of worldly desires. Disease and death are haunting me. I'm in your reverange shelter. Be my savior.
