Slow Life Friends Podcast - 018 - ALEX NERI -

Wow, time flies! When I think it's been 6 years already... I remember as if it was yesterday, when on some random early autumn afternoon my good friend Jerome called me. "What are you up to in two weeks?", he asked. "Nothing in particular, why?" "We got a slot at CDV for you!" I think that's the words every passionate DJ of our small and precious cosmos of music enthusiasts likes to hear. :)

Two weeks later, arrived in Berlin, it was very special to me. Also because it was my friend Fabi's birthday additionally. This was also when I met my friend Mikhail aka Studnev. But besides the good vibrations between friends it was also kinda nerve wracking to me - playing at CDV the first time... exciting!

On the day of the event the weather was quite bad, it was end of September, so it was quite chilly for a night at CDV, and we were unsure of being able to open at all, as it was even raining in the early afternoon. 

A few hours later, as the weather had changed for good, Fabi, Chris, Mikhail, some friends and me were standing there, on the terrace of CDV, on a late and cool afternoon in September. First all by ourselves, excited what’s to come.

I started to play, I had the first slot and I had prepared some weird ambient music for the beginning. As I've been playing a bit I kinda sensed, that everybody, including myself, was a feeling bit tense and I felt that the weird music I was playing made the tension even stronger, haha. So I had a couple of drinks, and just let myself go, I tried to not think too much about what I was doing and just play from my heart to create a kinda loose and not to serious vibe with my music. 

And this is where this cut emerged. It's the third hour of my set, we all have had a couple of drinks, and I had the feeling that it was working out. Everybody seemed to relax and so did I. It's the part where I have the most emotions attached to. It's kinda weird and not heading to a certain direction, and that's what makes this cut so special to me, as I can hear I was not thinking too much, but surrendering to the music and the moment. 

In the end I think it all worked out great, the club was filled with smiling faces, all the DJs played great, a lot of friends showed up and I also met new friends - everybody seemed to have a good time. I remember it to be a very special night to me and I am greatful for the experience to CDV, my hosts Fabi & Chris, Mikhail and all the friends that showed up and generally to everybody who has been supporting me over the years!

Estamos muy entusiasmados de presentar el primer cartucho de esta serie junto a nuestro colega DJ Try. Esta serie estara dedicada a explorar el trabajo y la visión de curadores emergentes, artistas y  amigos. 

DJ Try, miembro del colectivo Historias Pasadas, es un gran curador musical que esta lejos de encasillarse en un solo género.  Ha musicalizado ciclos como VG+ x Avant Garten, Sesión Fuga, Stueys x Feuer, Animatek, entre otros.

En sus propias palabras : "Dj Try o Dj Intentar. Es lo que hago desde que empece a querer ser Dj y también es lo que hago en general en mi vida. Con mi familia, con mis amigos, con el amor ,con el laburo, con el arte, con mi salud, con mi cuerpo, con mi cabeza, y con mi espiritu. Este primer cartucho reúne varios años de escucha y algunos otros de colección; una mezcla de temas que, como él, buscan seguir una línea sin perder la intuición.

We're very excited to present the first episode of this series alongside our colleague DJ Try. This series will explore the work and vision of emerging curators, artists, and friends.

DJ Try, a member of the Historias Pasadas collective, is a talented music curator who is far from pigeonholed into a single genre. He has created music for series such as VG+ x Avant Garten, Sesión Fuga, Stueys x Feuer, Animatek, among others.

In his own words: "Dj Try or DJ Intentar. It's what I've been doing since I started wanting to be a DJ, and it's also what I do in general in my life. With my family, with my friends, with love, with work, with art, with my health, with my body, with my mind, and with my spirit. Sometimes things go well, sometimes they go wrong. Sometimes I think they're going to go wrong, other times I feel like they're going to go well. But always with the desire to do, or to try to do."

This first cartridge brings together several years of listening and some more from the collection; a mix of songs that, like him, seek to follow a line without losing intuition.

Electronic music began to take shape for SAFI when he arrived in Paris, where we first met during an event at La Péniche Cinéma. A passionate listener and dedicated collector, his musical identity has been shaped over the years by three core influences : deep house, breaks, and dub. Early inspirations came from acid jazz and improvised jam sessions, building a foundation rooted in emotion and layered rhythms. His approach is guided by a continuous search for complexity and slower tempos.

This set explores the concept of patterns—slow, repetitive, yet constantly evolving. It offers a fluid journey that prioritizes depth and continuity over rigid genre boundaries. From warm textures to intricate percussion, each track contributes to a broader sonic narrative.

Lucid dreams and rhythm intertwine in a blend of introspection and movement. A personal and sincere musical voyage, crafted for everyday rituals as much as for deep, immersive listening.

KERMIX-26 - SAFI

Another OG in our series, this time it’s fellow Dutchman Daan Donk! He has been an integral part of Amsterdam’s underground culture for years, not only as head of Likeminded and Tale of Bus (Garage), but especially as DJ. We first met him digging through record stores when hardly anyone was paying attention to old records, and since than he has dedicated his life to vinyl. Daan and his projects have definitely shaped the city’s sound; so hats off to him. We are happy to share a live recording from Daan from a moody Crevette Records night in Fuse (Brussels). So keep yourself grooving and give this boy a spin!

He’s been an integral part of the scene since Cartulis Day was born 10 years ago in his adopted city of London. But there is so much more to the nerd from Bilbao (cartulis meaning "nerd" in his dialect). In fact, Unai Trotti’s musical journey did not start with techno in London but in Madrid as a sound technician for famous artists, travelling the globe as a crew member on world tours. But for him the parties really started when he moved to E8...

We catch up with the Hackney resident and listen back to a highlight of the year: An extract from a 5 hour set recorded during Cartulis Music at Fold. Setting the scene, Reade Truth had just finished his (debut) live. It was still dark but as the sunlight crept in through the shutters of the blinds, Unai created his soundtrack, transforming the room into his own sci-fi film. Dancers glued to the floor, with suspense and emotions running high through to the closing by Craig Richards & Nicholas Lutz.
