Real And Imagined Woman

Testing out a 1992 KORG Wavestation SR new to the studio following some minor repairs.  Although sporting its tiny screen in 1U packaging, the SR was the smallest in the Wavestation series, but it was by no means a cut down version in terms of its synthesis power.  A fair few of its multitude of its factory patches may now sound very dated it is still a very capable synth capable of remarkably complex and fluid timbres and textures even by 2023 standards.   The problem is harnessing this power and the fact that programming such a beast has a rather steep learning curve to say the least!  That said, there are still some real belters to be found among all those stock patches and a lot more out there on the net to load up and explore...

Claustro 5.1 (for Huw Mcgregor) 

Derived from the Latin, "claustrum," meaning "shut-in" or "enclosure." Claustro is the third composition in a series of works which explore aural micro-space. A sounding place of improved intelligibility through greater aural intimacy. The work is an invitation to come in and listen out for the thin line between philia and phobia that such places evoke. The discontinuous and non-homogenous nature of acoustic space inspires the arrangement of sound materials here.  Recordings of original sound sources were conducted using a micro multichannel array designed and built in collaboration with Huw Mcgregor.
