All funds raised will be donated to our key partners: Bündnis Entwicklung Hilft (Alliance for Development Help) based in Germany, Fulcrum UA in Ukraine, All Out an international LGBTQ+ organisation working in the region

"Aaron Carl Lives On" is the first single released via GIDEÖN's new label HOMO-CENTRIC RECORDS, an imprint dedicated to House music and to re-establish the lines of queer musical tradition at the heart of House, lost to AIDS and the capitalist desecration of dance music itself. This first single very fittingly is dedicated to the late great unsung hero Aaron Carl, the pioneering black queer Detroit dance artist. This single comes from GIDEÖN's 4-track 'Ritmo EP' due out in October. I invited to Artwork to come play some records on my show on Soho Radio New York tonight to pay homage to a weird phenomenon from three decades ago. Record stores in Croydon in the early-mid 1990’s. Croydon, a slightly less impressive cosmopolitan metropolis than the one we are DJing in now (in truth it was a dreary suburban shithole) bizarrely had some world class record shops. Certainly, a match for Black Market in Soho (sorry Goldie). I brought much of my early US House & Garage from Swag Records (with my pocket money), almost all of which have stood the test of time. Artwork worked in Big Apple Records also in Croydon at the very same time. It’s funny to be broadcasting those Croydon RIPS from Manhattan exactly 30 years later with Arthur (who I thought was scary and unapproachable at the time). It’s a funny old game!

Twenty-five years after starting this mixtape series, SlowJams Vol 22 is here!  This tradition started back in 1998 while I was living above Walgreens in the Lower Haight, San Francisco with some of the people who made me the man I am today …..The series featured music from the deeper, “late night” end of my record collection that almost never made its’s way onto the regular DJ mixtapes we were all making in the late nineties.  Over the years I have been told that these recordings have soundtracked many of my friends lives. Their romances, their after-hours’ and their Sunday sessions. When Eats Everything asked me to make him a mix for his Quarantime series it coincided with the weekend that would have been my annual trip to New York City. Every year I play for my house music allies, The Carry Nation who run the the hottest party in NYC. My pilgrimage always orbits around Soul Summit sound system in Fort Green Park, Brooklyn….the home of real house music. It breaks my heart to miss both these essential cultural institutions in the city that gave birth to the sound I have devoted my life to. So to counteract this endless holding pattern of doom we call 2020, I am very happy to present my Quarantime mix, made in honour of the city I love the most. A bunch of vintage cuts on this and loads of new stuff too, also featuring, "Over Back Then" from my forthcoming EP…..Enjoy!

I started this “vintage" series back in 2007 and am long overdue making another fair few volumes since I been shopping non stop since then🕳💦⚰️. Some of the cuts are a bit scratchy and worn but personally speaking I think this adds realness and character. These are actual physical records with real histories, some of them 40 years old.....some of these tunes have gathered their sonic patina from some REAL 🔥🐗parties ....eat your heart out Spotify-playlist-on-an-iPhone-speaker generation.💪🏼😜

GIDEÖN has a background in music spanning 33 years. In addition to his studio practice as a recording artist, his work as a creative director, stage designer and curator, he is also a touring DJ and an avid collector of vinyl. Since his first set of turntables in 1990, GIDEÖN has devoted his life to collecting vinyl from the US, Jamaica, Latin America, Africa, and the UK. He specialises in Northern Soul, Latin, Reggae, Gospel, and Disco rarities. House Music, above all else, is his first and greatest love. 

He is currently Creative Director of a new opera being developed in partnership with English National Opera. He has a degree in Music with Visual Practice (BA Hons) and was guest Creative Director of Music for London Borough of Culture 2022. Recent projects have seen Gideon head up Creative Direction for Dua Lipa’s record breaking Studio 2054, winning the MVA’s Music Video of The Year award. He was production designer for lead artists at Live at Worthy Farm, Glastonbury’s virtual festival livestream. 

As a curator, he programmed two events for Chaka Khan’s Meltdown Festival in summer 2024 and is currently Head of Music at The Roof Gardens in London. Other projects include work with Anohni, Banksy, Imperial War Museum, Finnish Opera House, Hercules & Love Affair, Lana Del Ray, Skrillex, Brian Eno, Roisin Murphey, The Blessed Madonna, Honey Dijon, and Jorja Smith.

GIDEÖN co-founded, co-directs and curates Block9’s festival nightlife institutions The NYC Downlow, Genosys, Maceo’s and IICON at Glastonbury Festival. He is also resident and co-booker at London’s hottest queer club night Adonis. As a radio DJ, GIDEÖN has been actively involved in broadcasting for over three decades. Since cutting his teeth on London’s pirate stations in the late nineties, he hosted a weekly show on London’s Soho Radio for 3 years. Recent guest appearances include New York’s Beats In Space, London’s Rinse FM, NTS Radio and BBC 6 Music. He recently held a residency at BBC Radio 1.

GIDEÖN has been involved in political activism his entire life and is now increasingly focussed on organising hybrid cultural-political events partnering music and protest, often under the banner of R3 Soundsystem. Together with charities Love Music Hate Racism & Stand Up To Racism, GIDEÖN has organised major sound system interventions on many of the Stop Brexit and Stop Trump and Anti-Fascism protests. He is actively involved with fundraising for several LGBTQ+, human rights and social justice organisations including AllOut, Medical Aid For Palestinians, Prepster, Human Dignity Trust and Refugee Community Kitchen. GIDEÖN sits on the advisory committee for The Right to Dance, part of War Child’s NGO Network.

R3 Soundsystem is a consortium of DJs, musicians, producers, record labels, festivals, nightclubs, sound systems, activists, and cultural organisations, all united by love of music and the rejection of right-wing nationalist values. R3’s three Rs stand for RESIST/REJECT/REVOLT.

GIDEÖN’s House Music label HOMO-CENTRIC RECORDS launched to showcase both his solo productions and collaborations with close queer comrades. The label focusses on the LGBTQ+ heritage of House and attempts to pay homage to its lost heroes. Its manifesto states the intent to re-establish the lines of queer musical tradition at the heart of House, lost to AIDS and the capitalist desecration of dance music itself.
