When I posted my cover of "Save Your Tears" by The Weeknd, my buddy Justin suggested that I do more covers of modern hit songs but with my alt/grunge style take on them... and of all the songs I could've done I picked what I figured to be the hardest one to transpose from pop to hard rock (not to mention highly unlikely given my musical tastes). Toxic. To be fair other bands have covered this as well & have done it justice. A Static Lullaby is one, but there's others too that really rock it out. My take is a bit different than all of them. I really enjoyed figuring this out & recording it, so I may stick with the modern stuff for a minute. As per my usual, all music, vox, instruments are all by me EXCEPT the drums. Toxic (Brittany Spears Cover 2023)

Every guitar player knows THIS song here is the coolest most bad-ass song ever. The movie Pulp Fiction made it famous, but it was recorded back in 1962 by "The King of Surf Guitar" Dick Dale. My Dad had his albums & when I was a little kid and my sister & me would play them on a big old console record player in our Grandma Swinderman's living room. Dick Dale & his Del-Tones, the Ventures, Beach Boys, The Surfaris, The Trashmen, Chet Atkins... such was my Dad's taste in music when he was a teenager. It's all killer stuff too. That it all had an early influence on me & why I play guitar... I have no doubts. This song in particular is heavily embedded into modern culture & it's primarily what people automatically "hear" in their mind when they think of "surf guitar". I've been playing it almost since I learned to play guitar... just not very well back then. But I had the fundamentals of the Mid-East flavored scales in the song. So, finally, at age 48... here is my somewhat extended cover of Dick Dale's "Miserlou". This is for my Dad. Also... R.I.P. Dick Dale. He passed away on March 16th 2019 & I was not aware until tonight. (It was absolute murder on my hands to play this... but I'm grateful I got it done.)

Miserlou aka the Pulp Fiction Theme Song (Dick Dale Cover 2023)

This is such a great song! But... it didn't start out that way. When Naked Eyes released this tune in 1983 it was a cover. It was written in the early 60's by Burt Bacharach & Hal David... recorded in '64 by Dionne Warwick and a few others also recorded it in the 60's... & let me tell you... the original versions are TERRIBLE! That's my opinion of course, but I invite you to give them a listen & tell me I'm wrong. They are so weird & awkward. Naked Eyes deserves a ton of credit for making this song such a great 80's anthem. I have no idea how they ever heard those earlier recordings and decided it was a good idea to cover it! Anyway... I had a ton of fun recording/mixing this song & even most of the vocal parts seemed to come easy to me. I used a "grunge" drum track from "Mr. Drum's" youtube channel & figured out the rest myself. Always Something There To Remind Me (Naked Eyes Cover 2023) Final Mix

Another Dear & The Headlights cover. This is my favorite song by them, always has been. It's called "Willetta" & as far as I can tell it's about a girl named Willetta who committed suicide & the singer is now at her funeral & he is confused & hurt & angry. He doesn't speak her name once during the entire song. It's a very melancholy, sad tune that is quite disturbing in it's language & depiction of death. That last line he repeats "it won't be long until we're in your place" is haunting to me. Death is not far off for any of us... jeesh... what a bummer. But I love this song anyway. Sorry the vox aren't that good. I had a bitch of a time with the verses & his timing. The chorus parts are ok I guess. I couldn't find any better drums... I looked extensively. But the song is in 3/4 time signature & there just aren't many options to be found that sound good. I had to mix 2 different tracks just to get this most basic of drums. This took me a couple weeks & was one of the harder songs I have ever recorded. I used my new 335 style hollow body guitar I just got for all guitar parts. I really dig that guitar. Enjoy!

Willetta (Dear And The Headlights Cover 2023) 2nd Mix

I covered this tune once before... a few years back. It came out ok... but over these past 3 years I have learned a LOT more about recording & mixing, I have new equipment & (dare I say?) my vocals have improved a little bit at least. So when a friend at work suggested I cover this song, I approached it as if I had never done so & started from scratch. The drums you hear are a mix of the isolated drum track by A-Ha & 2 different Arnaud Krakowka drum tracks. For the guitars I was gonna throw my American Strat into the mix, but I ended up using my new Les Paul exclusively because I had not recorded with it yet & I needed a song to really hear how it sounds. I once again used a dual bass approach like I did on The Weeknd's cover I did... one clean & one distorted. As for the vocals, well, I tried my best! I can;t fluidly hit that high note while recording normally, so I added it & attempted to mix it in as natural as I could. This song is a blast to play though... it really rocks. Enjoy!

Take On Me (AHa Cover 2023) 2nd Mix

My cover of "Toxic" w/special guest vocalist... Brittany Spears! Lol... but really this IS my grungy cover of Toxic w/Brittany's vocal track mixed in ala duet. I had previously posted my own vocal cover & a version w/my music with all Brittany's vocals, this one has both. Now I can be done with tinkering around with this song. I did a bit of remixing too along the way, fixed some volume issues etc. For what it is I prefer my version, but I couldn't help but want to preserve the odd pairing of her voice w/my guitars. Something Beautiful (2023) 2nd Mix

This song is largely drawn from an old Means to an End song... all riffs except for the chorus actually were part of a song that I can't remember the name of. Donny Taylor had lyrics for it & I actually really dig his take on the structure & the way he sang them... but I also can't remember all his words. So, I made up what I couldn't recall, wrote a new chorus entirely & voila! Here's the song! I have always loved that opening riff & the ending riff. I never really stopped playing them but I also couldn't figure out how to utilize them until a couple years back when I simply called it "3 Riffs". There's not really any overall meaning to the words & the title simply comes from a chorus line that was the only thing that seemed worthy of calling it. I wish Donny was still here to listen to this... & I hope my old band mates Mark & Aaron dig it and smile at the old days once more. I feel like I'm the Keeper of the Flame for our music we wrote together all those years ago (1998-2002?) & it's my pleasure to do so.

Curses And Oaths (2023 MTAE Tribute Song)

There's this guy on Youtube named Andre Antunes who does a cover of this song "in the style of Muse" & I gotta say... it is most excellent! His cover is far superior to mine, but he's the reason I wanted to cover this song in the 1st place. I've been pondering the Beatles for a while now. I have never covered them & they have stuff that I think would translate to grunge really well. I may do some more? I am really stoked with how this one came out though. I feel like I'm finding my voice after all these years! Also, this is my 1st song using my new Fender Starcaster semi-hollow body guitar I recently bought. It's the only guitar used in the whole song. Drums are from Arnaud Krakowka as per my usual. I hope you enjoy!

My 2nd Beatles cover. This one was a bitch to get to come together... but I guess I'm pretty happy with how it finally came out. I nixed the opening vocals & opted for a heavier guitar intro. I also added a little "solo" after the 2nd chorus that isn't in the Beatles song. Anyway... here's another Beatles cover that translates into grunge/punk rather well. Help! (Beatles Cover 2023)

I covered this song once before utilizing a "backing track" because I couldn't find drums for it. That backing track also had the bass & horns in it, so it wasn't really "me" covering it... it was just me on vox & guitars. I decided to give it another go using Arnaud Krakowka drums while grunging it out a bit more. I also decided to try & keep that 60's flavor as much as I could, mainly by keeping the background vocals prominent. It's such a great song... everyone on the planet likes "Be My Baby" by the Ronettes!

Mix #2 of my cover of Vampire by Olivia Rodrigo. I couldn't get the vocals right and I had already put like 5 days into this recording... musically I was very happy with it so I went on Youtube & found Olivia's isolated vocal track, transposed it down a 1/2 step & carefully laid her voice into my music. I love the result. Her vocals go great with heavier guitars! I was toying with back up vocals & it was showing some promise, but in the end I liked her voice too much to tamper with any further. I chopped up like 5 drum trax to form this (thanx Doom Tones & Arnaud Krakowka!) and the rest is all me on guitars and bass. Vampire (Olivia Rodrigo On Vocals Cover 2023) 2nd Mix

So I bought this beautiful Ibanez guitar at the pawn shop... got it home, plugged in... and discovered that the previous owner had it all set up for drop C tuning. I almost started to re-string it & set it up my way, but I kept noodling around with it and came to really dig the vibe & sound I was getting. In my pursuit of tones I just kinda started playing this riff... then it grew on me... then I decided to attempt to record it & here is the result. (I haven't recorded in weeks & I needed something to break my recording block.) My computer sucks & my Audacity kept crashing while I was tracking the guitars, so I had to keep it pretty simple & minimal. The title comes from the name of the drum track I used from Doom Tones youtube page. Enjoy!

This song has slowly become my favorite original I have ever written. I guess that's why I keep trying to perfect it through re-mixes & additional vox & guitar trax. I'm quite proud of it though... the music, composition... even the lyrics/vocals! Given that, I am going to put down the lyrics here (mainly for my sister to follow). It's something I have been wanting to start doing anyway & there's no time like the present. 2nd Mix! This song represents massive headaches & annoyances caused by my old laptop crashing. I lost all my music files & had to get a new computer & download Audacity again just to find that mine was sorely outdated & it took me a week to get comfortable with the newest version. I had to buy new cables for my microphones & just get used to all the new equipment & software. It was like when I 1st began to seriously record digitally... learning all over again. It was a fucking pain in the ass week. This is the song I recorded as I re-learned how to. I really liked it at first, but now idk if I do or not. Still... the upload is the final test so I gotta do it. It can only get easier from here!

1st Song On New Computer 2023 2nd Mix

(Re-mixed on 6-1-2025) I will begin by saying I used ALL NEW EQUIPMENT recording this song. My Enya Carbon Fiber Acoustic, my Schecter Elite Omen, my Gretsch Short Scale Bass, my Shure SM57 Mic was ran through a new audio interface into a new computer & an updated version of Audacity. The only "old" equipment I used was my Line 6 amp. This is an astonishingly beautiful song from Mastodon. It's on their album "Emperor of Sand" & I was hooked from the 1st time I heard it. Most of Mastodon's stuff is really hard to cover... they are very technical & write complicated riffs, have one of the best drummers on the planet (as well as lead guitarist!) & finally, they boast 3 Lead Singers, any one of them could front their own band! This song is definitely among their simpler ones, yet it's still very powerful. Brent's guitar solo is killer! I can only do a pale imitation, yet I still tried. (The "II" in the title is something I found on youtube, it basically just repeats the 1st portion of the song & doesn't go into the other 2-3 parts on "Jaguar God"... I only learned the 1st part so... I hope you enjoy!)

Jaguar God II (Mastodon Cover 2024)

Ugh... this one took forever. I recorded it twice actually. The 1st time it was too close of a rendition to the original & not "herd rock/grunge" enough for me, so I exported my drums to a new file and started over again. I was also having severe latency issues while recording and it can sound muddy in some parts as a result. I tried to fix it as I went but... what a slog! Anyway, this song is always playing on the radio or on the house music at work & it grew on me. Dude can sing & compose, that's for sure. Time will tell if I end up liking this cover. Right now I'm just too over it to really listen in relax mode. I truly hope it turned out good because it's a few weeks of my life I'll never get back. Anyway, I hope you enjoy my grunge take on Benson Boone's "Beautiful Things".

Beautiful Things (Benson Boone Cover 2024)

A brand new post-rock original song I finished on 1/11/2025. It's an instrumental song that I do not intend to add any lyrics to. There was a youtube vid reviewing guitars & equipment that caught my ear & provided the inspiration for this song, but I wrote & composed it all from my head afterwards. The equipment I used was an LTD H-200 guitar, an Ibanez High Performance RG guitar & a LTD spalted maple bass guitar that I adore to play. My Line-6 Spider III was used for all guitar parts & I added the Keeley Parallax Spatial Generator pedal for the staccato guitar leads throughout the song. I ran my bass through my Positive Grid Spark 40 amp & mic'd all of it using a $3 computer microphone I found at Goodwill. I "programmed" (cut & pasted snippets according to my compositional needs) the drums using Arnaud Krakowka's drums "Easy Metal Drum Track 85 bpm" from his youtube channel. It's a beautiful song that is sometimes quiet & pretty, sometimes heavy & dramatic... but I find it to be very inspiring & empowering & it has an awesome groove. Enjoy!

Rebirth of Spring (2025)

This song was gonna be great! It's all about sexual innuendos & the lyrics are quite clever. I had sirens & a girl moaning in the throes of ecstasy for the "solo" segment. However, soundcloud wouldn't let me upload it saying I was infringing on someone's copy righted sounds. I'm assuming it was the chick moaning lol. Oddly enough I had to remove the police sirens too before it finally allowed my upload. The only sample left in the song is the cougar roaring when the chorus begins. Anyway... I put all this effort into it that I still wanted to upload it and share it... orgasmic moaning or not lol. I used drums from Doom Tones & my Solar guitar as well as the red Ibanez. Bass was my LTD. I also added significant distortion to my vocals to better match the song vibes.

No Way (The Naked & Famous Cover 2025)

I wrote this song outta nowhere one day & kept adding to the core riff until this whole piece came about. I really dig it! Using the Phrygian scales there's an obvious "Arabic" flavor to it... not unlike "Miserlou" by Dick Dale. For all the guitar parts I used my ESP/LTD EC1000 ran through the Keeley Parallax Spatial Generator pedal for all the clean parts. The amp I used was my brand new Vox Cambridge set to the classic Vox130 for all cleans & the Double Rectifier for the distortion parts at the end. For the drums I mixed up like 5 different tracks, the 2 main ones are from Guitar Maps Drum Tracks... the Middle Eastern drum tracks were 3 random ones I found while searching & I hate to say, but I can't remember the channels I found them on. As for the title... I kept thinking of stuff like "Storm of Arabia" or "Sands of Arabia" & it all sounded pretentious, so I just decided to cut out the 1st word & go with "Of Arabia". I have always appreciated this kind of music. It can be wildly creative & unique... but I doubt I will attempt to revisit it anytime soon. I got my tune down finally & it was a very long week of trial & error & re-recording & re-mixing.... I'm happy to be done so I can move onto other ideas. For what it's worth though, I am very proud of this song & I hope you can rock it out and enjoy it as I do!

Of Arabia (2025)

My grunged out cover of Voices Carry... the classic 80's song from Til Tuesday. Aimee Mann recently performed this song again with the O.G. members of the band & it made me want to re-visit my cover from 2023. It didn't need much done to it, but I did some vocal separation, added a new vocal track & did some other mixing like bringing the bass up a bit in the mix. I have always enjoyed this take... I feel it's one of my better efforts at a cover song done differently than the original. Enjoy!

Voices Carry (Til Tuesday Cover 2025)

My 3rd Beatles cover that I am very proud of! "Yesterday" done ala punk/grunge at 100 mph. For this remix I did some EQ on the bass & brought it out more in the mix, I increased the volume of the lead guitars, and lastly... I added an isolated vocal track of Sir Paul McCartney to sing along with me on the final refrain at the end. He also does the little humming thing at the very end. Yesterday (Beatles Cover 2024) Re-mix 2025

*2nd Mix. I did a cover of this song around 4 years ago or so. Back then I was ecstatic that I learned it & made a decent recording of it... or so I thought. It actually sounded pretty shitty. So, I decided to give it another go! The music turned out great. The vocals??? I guess that's for you to decide. I'm not a singer. I will say this new version sounds miles better than the old one in that regard. It's such a great song & it's a blast to play. Guitars used were my Jackson Monarkh & my ESP/LTD EC1000 ran through the Line 6. I used the Keeley Parallax guitar pedal sparingly. For bass I ran my LTD bass through the Spark amp. Drums are the original isolated drum tracks. I added a little hand clap during the bridge, but otherwise I kept the same composition as the OG song. Enjoy!!!

Hopefully my final mix of my new cover tune, or at least my attempt at covering the Deftones new song from their album "Private Music" called "I Think About You All The Time". I love this song... as soon as I 1st heard it I was hooked and it is my favorite from the new album by far. For equipment I used 2 guitars tuned down to Drop C. My Solar "tele" & my Ibanez Premium. Bass used was the LTD bass ran through the Spark amp. Almost all guitars are ran through the Line 6 amp except a couple trax were ran through the Vox. This is my 2nd upload with the vocals & after tinkering with everything & adding some echo fx to my voice at certain spots... I think I'm officially DONE with this track! You should go listen to the Deftones version. Chino's voice is just amazing.

I Think About You All The Time (Deftones Cover 2025)

An old Means to an End song that is pretty much one of my complete efforts I brought to the boys. In the beginning Donny wrote most of our songs, but a few years in I was also contributing to the original songs heavily as well. Matti brought some riffs to practice too & Mark ALWAYS laid down killer drum beats to everything we played! He was & still is a heavy hitting drummer & sometimes my shitty rig (a Fender M-80 half stack w/a Squier Strat fitted w/a Seymour Duncan Hot Rails pick-up) just could not keep up with all the other sounds in that practice studio we had! This particular song here... all 3 parts were written by me before I brought it to a band practice one day. It is a bitch for me to play these days as that opening riff requires me to stretch my hand quit significantly to hit those notes, but it sounds great! Donny had lyrics & sang but I can't recall for the life of me what we called this song??? He also had me (for the 1st time?) singing back-up vocals during the chorus part. As I remember it, I was just basically shouting "Gotta be! Gotta see!" a couple of times. I always had a difficult time playing guitar & "singing" at the same time on stage. Sometimes I just wouldn't do it much to Donny's annoyance lol. As for the technical aspects this song is played at 105 bpm's in 6/8 time signature with the end slowed down a tad to 98 bpms. Guitars used were my ESP/LTD EC1000 along w/my Squire Jazzmaster. It has some great P-90 pick-ups in it that sound super punchy when distorted. It really helped pronounce those chugs! Both were ran through my Line 6 amp with some tracks utilizing the Keeley Parallax Spatial Generator pedal. For Bass I used my ESP/LTD B-204 ran through the Spark. I may attempt to throw some lyrics down to the best of my ability, but I have no good recording of this song to decipher what Donny was singing & I will have to make up my own. I really just wanted to get the music down. I always really liked this song & was very proud that I wrote it & I figure Mark & Matti will get a kick outta hearing it again 25 years later!

MTAE One of Mine (2025)

Final mix (I hope?) of my cover of "Whatever Didi Wants" by NOFX from their album "Heavy Petting Zoo". This is such a great song! Fat Mike & the boys from NOFX may act like immature punk rockers... but they write some intricately beautiful punk anthems that I have loved for 25 years now. Both guitar players are masters of their craft. For my version I went off range from my usual settings & there is ZERO reverb on my guitars (at least the heavy distortion guitars). I have NEVER used no reverb in my recordings. Guitar used was my Schecter emerald green burst Platinum w/EMG pick ups ran through the Line 6. I also used my Schecter Elite 4 Bass ran through the Spark amp. This song is in 4/4 time signature at 180 bpms. I mixed up a couple different Arnaud Krakowka drum tracks for this.

Whatever Didi Wants (NOFX Cover 2025)

A person I work with is always trying to get me to do a cover of Red Hot Chili Peppers... but I'm not a fan & I have no desire to do it. However, Sublime seemed like a decent trade-off! So I told her I'd do a Sublime cover instead. I picked "Santeria". It's their biggest hit & it was super easy to translate into grunge/punk. An earlier original song I wrote called "A Punk Rock Sorta Love" already reminded me of Santeria, but it is a bit different. For this version I decided to do an all out, fast as fuck at 180 bpms version that just never puts on the brakes once it's past the little intro. I dig it! It's pretty snappy. For guitars I used my Schecter Omen Elite, my Samick JTR "Linda" & my High Performance Ibanez RGA. Bass used was the LTD. The final mix??? I hope so.

Santeria (Sublime Cover 2025)

A new original tune I came up with noodling around. It's very pretty & relaxing... then it gets intense & rocks out for a spell... then goes away quietly. I needed something for an intro to cover up my drum count-in that eventually got silenced, otherwise there would be an awkward 8 seconds of no sound before the guitars intro, so I found some sounds of seagulls w/waves crashing as well as a rising wind that I stretched out/duplicated/reversed the dupe & rammed them together & stretched the audio some with a fade-in & fade-out. So that's the extra noises you hear at the start & at the end. I used my ESP/LTD EC1000 for all guitar parts. Both my Vox Cambridge amp and my Line 6 amp were used w/the Parallax pedal too. The distortion was through the Vox for a change! For bass I used the LTD B-204 ran through the Spark. Enjoy my pretty little song! 3nd mix.

Angellica (2025) 3rd Mix

A friend at work was suggesting some Sublime songs for me to cover & he sent me a link to THIS song.... "Hope" by the Decendents. He didn't realize that the Sublime version was a cover tune, but he said it was one of his favs. I had actually already covered this song some years back, but I figured that I could do a better job of it these days after all the extensive experience I have recording since then. I think it turned out pretty good! I used my Schecter Hellraiser for all guitar parts & the LTD bass. For the drums, I discovered this KILLER Youtube channel called TBR Tracks. This guy has hundreds of drum tracks on there, mostly obscure punk stuff, but there is a variety to surf through. Check it out if you are looking for specific drum tracks!! Hope (Decendents Cover 2025) 1st Mix

Final mix w/vocals. I think I'm pretty happy with how the music turned out! The only guitar I used on this track was my Solar "Telecaster". That guitar is just... fuckin awesome! I don't use it enough because it's tuned down to Drop C along with my Premium Ibanez. But I wanted a song to showcase the Solar & this is it. The vocals... well, it's a pretty tall order me singing THIS song & I'm not too happy with how they are turning out. But there's really nothing I can do about it either. It's simply beyond my talent vocally. Perhaps it will grow on me as time passes? This song... I have to say it is one of my favs by the Deftones & it has been for many years. Pretty much since it 1st came out. The "feel" of it, with the slow guitar notes & the melody they create have always reminded me of the song "Maggot Brain" by Funkadelic. (What's up w/maggots anyways???). You may agree or not, but it can't be denied that this is a beautiful heavy song! Enjoy & listen to the original. Chino's vocals are mesmerizing.

A CTE cover tune I've been working on using my new Ibanez AS semi-hollow body guitar. It's a great little song. Definitely more POP than anything... but sometimes I like to play a good pop song. CTE also does a great acoustic version of this song & I used to play that one at parties & late night drinking sessions w/our friends from Germany. Maybe I will do t5he acoustic version sometime as well.

Right Before My Eyes (Cage the Elephant Cover 2025)

Another new song I just started working on! I uploaded this massive "test" to see if I am liking the direction it's headed. I still don't have the entire composition worked out & I tend to have too many ideas sometimes that it turns the songs into a muddy mess. BUT... I kinda want this one to be a bit sludgy! It's played in D standard for that reason (basically Drop C without "dropping" the fat string!) & with the direction it is going.... many guitars, distorted bass, reverbed drums.... I wanted to upload something to test if it's gonna sound like shit or if I will hopefully dig it! While it is "post-rockish", I did have some ideas lyrically. We shall see where this goes...

And It's All Because Of You (2025) TEST

I have played guitar since the age of 14 (around 1990 give or take) & I still play to this day... only now instead of playing live or seeking to be in a band, I record my own music at home! I use Audacity software (free!) & basically use a mic to record my guitars, bass & vocals through my various guitar amps. Drums I "program" by downloading tracks from youtube & chopping them up to suit my needs. I write my own music as well as record covers. I'm not a singer & all of my vocals are achieved by doing multiple vocal tracks to create a harmony that is otherwise lacking. Sometimes the results are ok, sometimes it sucks. Either way, making music & taking care of my cats are the 2 main reasons I am on this Earth. I hope you enjoy some of my stuff!
