2023 has unarguably been a great year for Electro both with overall visibility for the public as well as with the sheer number of quality releases being put out over the year. With a newfound buzz surrounding my beloved genre, I'm hardly keeping up! I feel like It was a busy year both production-wise and promotion-wise for @DVSNME and @DarkScienceElectro respectively, however, I found some time to put together a mix of my personal favorite tracks from 2023. The original cut was cooked up by label head-chef ANDI A. Once upon a lock-down, when humans had only machines for company… a Juno 1, an old Yamaha groove box, a glitchy noisy synthesizer and a cheap microphone transpired ‘Bass Control’ into space and time. 

Never intended to be released, 3diz asked Andi A. for the stems one day, and the rest is h̴i̴s̴t̴o̴r̴y̴  the f u t u r e. 

Along with 4 other unique remixes, The Detroit Electro veteran, DJ Di’jital, delivers a bass-heavy, deep dive into the underground; proving once again why no one does it like Detroit does it.

We are talking about Arabian Prince >> In 1986 he was a founding member of N.W.A but when fellow member Ice Cube came back from the Phoenix Institute of Technology in 1988, Arabian Prince soon after left over royalty and contract disagreements. "I started off as a solo artist", he said, " so I was aware of what a royalty statement was. I knew that when these many records were sold, there is a quarterly statement. When you look at it, you can see how much money was paid and then share it. This was not the case. We were also never paid for touring." Eazy-E, Ice Cube and MC Ren remained as the main performers, DJ Yella was the turntablist and Dr. Dre was the main producer.

After leaving N.W.A, Arabian Prince began a solo career. His first album, Brother Arab, was released in 1989 with the hit single "She's Got A Big Posse"; Where's My Bytches followed in 1993.

THE STORY BEHIND THE MIXTAPE:

The Polish music scene in the 70s and 80s was thriving, despite the harsh and gloomy political and social reality. Until the beginning of the 80s, the iron curtain seemed to be extraordinarily hermetic. However, artists and ordinary people succeeded in finding blind spots of the system throughout the decades. Forbidden music genres, unreachable instruments, banned products of western pop-culture leaked into the artistic environment and everyday life to some extent. Synthesizers, Moog, Rhodes organs found its way to fit into the local music. Funk, disco, and groovy rock took over the Polish music scene with an impressive female singers' contribution. The eclectic and progressive sound of Polish music from the late 70s and 80s got its widespread recognition thanks to the extraordinary female voices such as Ewa Bem, Krystyna Prońko, Zdzisława Sośnicka, Mira Kubasińska, to name a few. The curated mixtape "The Polish Ladies on Records" sheds some light on a few acknowledged and lesser-known singers with a special spotlight on their forgotten or overlooked songs. The distance of more than 40 years gives us a chance to listen to the songs with a universal perspective, with a knowledge of global trends and local limitations of the era.
