I’m excited to share my entry for the #KeralLochRemixComp! I decided to focus my exploration on an instance “outside” of the original track, only to return to that original moment at the end. When writing the piece, I chose to delve into the arpeggio texture developed by Tiersen but bring it away from the piano and into this flux/sea of sound/forms. Unfortunately, many of us don’t exist in our mother’s tongue. Language, among other mediums, is struggling to illustrate the unique circumstances experienced by the universe's infinite beings. Personally, I have wrestled with finding my authentic self as a queer person, often navigating spaces where language can’t begin to describe how I feel. My remix of the work, “Ker al Loch [I Don’t Exist In My Mother’s Tongue],” seeks to interact with this ambiguity of self/selves and welcome those willing or forced to exist within this fluid, modulating, and constantly shifting tide of existence. Mark Miller is an award-winning poet and photographer who has published four books of poetry, the latest being Light and Counterlight, a selection of his best haiku from over 350 that have been published in international journals and anthologies. Among his awards are an International Sakura Award in the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival Haiku Invitational 2013 and 2021, first place in the Blue Giraffe Press Second Haiku Competition 2014 and first prize in the FAWQ Haiku Competition 2016. His previous three books are Conversing with Stones (Five Islands Press, 1989), This Winter Beach (Seaview Press, 1999), and Scanning the Horizon (Ginninderra Press, 2018). Published by Ginninderra Press in 2020, Light and Counterlight is his first book of haiku. Mark lives in Shoalhaven Heads, Australia.

In a spirited return to their musical roots, Redtenbacher’s Funkestra joined forces with Horn House—a virtuosic horn section led by trombonist Nichol Thomson—to release the jazz‑funk single “Old Blood.” The collaboration marks a powerful reunion: Thom­son and bandleader Stefan Redtenbacher initially met as students at Berklee College of Music in the mid‑1990s. After both establishing careers in London, they reunited some 25 years later for this track—a fitting “full‑circle” musical journey reflected in the title.
