Originally composed in the Spring of 1978; during the Moody Park Riot that occurs a year  after the death of 23 yo army veteran brother José Campos Torres beaten by Houston Police. Song was released the same year as track 4 of Gil compilation "The Mind Of Gil : Scott-Heron",  featuring Malcom Cecil on bass and synthetiser. Album is an out-of -sequence near-retrospective, combining 3 new poems with a look-back to Gil classics.

Checkmates, Ltd. were an American R&B group from Fort Wayne, Indiana. The group, discovered by Nancy Wilson, included both black and white members; their one major hit was 1969's "Black Pearl", produced by Phil Spector.

Demo track by singer & songwriter Gary Taylor who wrote and recorded it in 1985, for a planned second album on A&M, but eventually gave the song to Alfie Silas in '86, and then a year later to The Whispers, who had a big hit with their version. 

" I did this demo back in the early 80's as the start of what was to be a second album on A&M records... but they said the song wasn't a hit. My Brother's The Whispers thought differently, and said yes we want to record it... and we want you to produce it... the rest is history. 1.3 million + copies sold and it's easy to see why A&M records is no longer around... like Scotty and Walter told me..."This song is timeless"... what a Blessing".

His name is alternately (mis)spelled as Van Holmen (Wallace Collection), Van Holme (on most recordings) or Vanholme, which is his real name (in his early production days).

OST Hairpin Circus (A Short Story For Image) 1972

Based on the short story "hairpin circus" of Hiroyuki Itsuki who is very famous as a venerable authority on a popular novel in Japan."
"'Hairpin circus' means a name of reckless drivers team in this film. Besides, there is a meaning of the circus riding with a high-speed car in the hairpin bend." 

This soundtrack from Motion Picture "Hairpin Circus" was called the answer from Japan to Miles on "Ascenseur pour I'Echafaud" and MJQ on "No Sun in Venice". It is said so because this was made like their improvisation in the short span of time. (Kikuchi made this only from seeing the preview of the film, just once.)

SHout out to Masabumi Kikuchi who died this year in JUly. Amazing pianist and sensitive musician.

Dedicated to his sons. “My youngest son has Sickle Cell and my oldest son has Autisim. This song is for them”, stated Bilal. An advocate for Autism, last month Bilal led the 2010 Walk Now for Autism Speaks on the National Mall.
