Finding out what DJs and producers listen to outside the club context is not always easy, especially because they want to create and maintain a certain musical image of themselves. This format is about sharing something other than electronic club sound, to show the diverse influences and sides of their auditory – sometimes hidden – preferences. Therefore, Whatever Floats Your Boat is a show where we listen to favourites or classics that are not necessarily found in the club context.

FLAX (she/her)
genrefluid trip: experimental, breaks, weird beats

FLAX is a Weimar-based DJ, sound artist, and cultural manager with a diverse background in various music scenes and subcultures. She started her journey as a DJ with the foundation of the network Metaware Weimar in 2019 and has since worked in various roles, including concept artist, music teacher, event manager, booker, and sound artist. Her style is described as "genrefluid trips" that blend different genres and sounds.

FLAX is currently pursuing musicology and cultural management studies at the music university Weimar, where she researches the field of "music and well-being," the history of electronic music & sound art, and the intersection of "music & gender" in club culture. She is also committed to inspiring and empowering young FLINTA* people through workshops.

FLAX is working on the production of her debut album project and has been teaching at the Bauhaus University Weimar since 2022 to further her research.

"What always drives me is my love for music. It's not the world that's unfair, it's the people who don't know any other perspectives. I will tirelessly play demanding and progressive sound on the stages I stand on because that's what drives me - curiosity, love for sound, and a desire to experiment. New spaces, sound scapes, whatever and diverse perspectives are realities of life, realities(!) and I want to hear and see them for real. ZENA MIXSERIES NO. 109 - FLAX

Vor 6 Jahren habe ich zum ersten Mal versucht meine derzeitige Plattensammlung in einem Set zusammenzufassen, um dem Internet einen Eindruck davon zu verschaffen.
Seit dem ist reichlich Musik vergangen und ich bin zu dem Entschluss gekommen, dass es mal wieder Zeit dafür ist, ein Resumee meiner aktuellen Suche nach Musik zu ziehen.
Ich finde spätestens seit dieser Seuche mein Bauchgefühl mehr und mehr in perkussiver, basslastiger, elektonischer Musik  aufgehoben und grabe mich fleißig duch dieses gigantische Neuland. 
Als Eindruck davon habe ich euch meine Lieblinge aus dem Bereich auf eine Stunde runtergebrochen und bin gespannt, was man davon hält.
Boogie, Disco und all die anderen Leckereien feier ich nach wie vor, aber es macht einfach mega Spaß ein bisschen neue Ufer zu erkunden.
Lasst mich gerne wissen, ob ihr mit dem Sound was anfangen könnt und sagt vor allem bescheid, wenn ihr Zeit, Raum und  eine stabile Anlage habt, um euch was zum besten zu geben.

Henrike aka R!ke grew up in Leipzig and, inspired by the scene, switched from classical to electronic music a few years ago. Since then, R!ke has stood for a playful sound somewhere between deep house, dreamy breaks and dub techno. She loves to listen to music, to sort it, but above all to share and talk about it.

With her sets, she repeatedly demonstrates her talent for creating uplifting moods that range from deep relaxation to driving rhythms. Rike is particularly impressed by delicate, floating and deep sounds. When asked for a track that would give a glimpse of what she's been up to lately, she enthusiastically named Long Island Sound's "Everytime I See Your Face." For her, this track conveys that certain warmth that carries and accompanies you home after a long night.
Among others (including Input IfZ, Callshop Radio Nachtiville, Lila Drache Halle) she already played for Vacanza at Elipamanoke a few months ago.
