After previous well-received collaborations published on acclaimed outlets such as Frank Music, Another Rhythm, and &Friends, AP & Gimbrère land now on Tensnake's True Romance with a lovely EP: "Love On The Rocks" comes packed with a too-much-groove-to-be-true gait delivered by the beautiful title track - in two versions (Original and Extended) - and the melodic "Add Up", the closing act.

And who are the lads? Gimbrère is an Amsterdam-based DJ and producer whose passion for the magic that music triggers on the dance floor started in his middle teens. In addition to the aforementioned, his works have already appeared on cool labels like, for instance, White Widow, Eight0Eight Records, and Future Disco. Owen Micallef aka AP, in turn, hails from Malta and has been fighting the good fight also since a tender age. His solo flights can be found on Love Attack, Tinted, theBasement Discos, and Pomme Frite, just to name a few.

Premiered here, the main piece of the EP is a stunning 134-BPM Trance-meets-Italo-Disco-meets-Hi-NRG gem designed to bring about euphoria and exhilaration to its following. Caveat Emptor: Strictly peak time!

Tensnake's True Romance have long been propagators of modern interpretations of Disco and their next release sees an expansion of this trope courtesy of Maltese producer AP working alongside Sulta Selects affiliate Gimbrère.

Here, the duo lay out 3 kinetic productions that meld Prog, Italo and House. The vocal version of 'Love On The Rock's kicks things off with a tapestry of dramatic synths that bring vivid colour to racing drums and an exuberant vocal line. A well crafted breakdown sees melodies treated with hi- pass submersion before an elastic tension is let go to rapturous effect.

The instrumental version of 'Love On the Rocks' provides variety for the DJ bag before 'Add Up' again, draws from Italo influences as a saw-tooth bass line darts under glacial sweeps that render a pastel sunset. Another elongated breakdown gives way and certifies dance floor efficacy, rounding off a highly reliable collection of club tools.

For the latest release on his consistently impressive Love Attack label, Alan Dixon has turned to sometime True Romance, Another Rhythm and Frabk Musik contributors AP and Gimbere. Title track 'Be Careful What You Wish For' is the undoubted highlight: a dark, throbbing, muscular slab of Dutch style electro-disco powered forwards by a weighty, restless groove, and smothered in rising and falling synthesiser lines. That said, the surging, techno-tempo rush of 'Out of My Hands' - which makes use of elements borrowed from a legendary 1980s Chicago track of the same name - is almost as alluring and many times more positive-sounding.

Amsterdam-based DJ and producer Philippe Gimbrère (aka Gimbrère) creates uplifting, dancefloor connecting and melodic (house)music.

At the age of sixteen Gimbrère met ‘90s Dutch DJ legend Dimitri Kneppers who invited him for his performance at the long-running Amsterdam techno festival Awakenings in 2012. Because of this experience he saw the connection between the artist and the audience from another perspective. The energy created by this extraordinary link triggered Gimbrère into making music. 

Making music depends on finding inspiration and to be honest there is no secret formula for Gimbrère to get creative. However, he feels most inspired when he envisions a crowd’s response to a certain rhythm, melody or harmony. When he grasps this image, he wants to convey the same exact feeling, this surge of energy through synths, snares and (drum)samples.

In addition to completing his law degrees and invigorated by his peers, the hobby of a YouTube self-taught late-bloomer is growing into a professional endeavour. 

With his first single “A Thing”, appointed by DJ Mag as “hard-hitting, funk-sampling belter”, Gimbrère started to create waves in the scene, which led to a top 5 ranking in the Indie Dance and Nu Disco genre on Beatport.

Moreover, his tracks have been picked up by some big names in the industry including Annie Mac, Denis Sulta, Groove Armada, MK, Solardo, Steve Lawler and Wankelmut to name a few.

What’s more, multiple plays on BBC Radio 1, among which his release on Sulta Selects Silver Service, can be seen as hugely exciting milestones.

The love and passion for music shows when Gimbrère is on stage and with his refreshingly versatile and hard to categorise productions, Gimbrère has just begun showing the world his musical view.
