Last summer we got to meet with the lovely Mr. Big Happy on our trip to San Francisco! You might have heard 'The Big Happy Show' on NTS Radio where he serves boogie, disco and modern soul tracks from his impressive collection for his listeners across the globe. We spent some hours in his studio after a long day of digging when he started pulling out house stuff he hadn’t touched in a while. That's when we came up with the idea of him making a early days house mix for our Mutual Mix series. The selection pays homage to the beginning of House music when the beats were LoFi and the vocals were soulful and raw. A similarity to the stuff you will hear in 'The Big Happy Show' on NTS Radio.

Mutual Mix #21: Mr. BigHappy (SF)

I came back the other week with a bag full of records I grabbed while in NYC to play for you all, but that will have to wait. In the past few days, two of the best to ever do it have transitioned after living incredible lives and giving all of us so much music and inspiration - Ahmad Jamal and Ivan "Mamao" Conti. It only felt right to pay tribute to them both on this episode. I tried to play some tunes, especially from Jamal's catalogue, that aren't the big sample-famous ones, but are favorites none the same.

I've done two other mixes dedicated to Jamal in the past, who is my favorite pianist ever, whose music has been so important to me, whose records my dad passed down to me. Admittedly only in more recent years have I become more familiar with Conti's work, and have completely fallen in love with it. 

Salute to these giants!

For our September(九月) Tsubaki FM show we invite Paris base DJ and music producer Mido(@mido ).

Mido runs a creative company SENSE and a record label MENACE which focuses on progressive instrumental music and production. Through MENACE, he has released works from artists such as Toshio Matsura 松浦俊夫, Underground Canopy, Enzo Carniel, Antoine Berjeaut, and Hugo LX.  He has also released several vinyl projects with Jazzy Sport and is deeply connected with the music scene in Japan. 

Mido’s 2hour music journey starts with an immersing graceful jazz by Fumio Itabashi, gradually making its way to hiphop and ambient.
