Who’s ready for GAB MIX 040??? 

On this fine Sunday we are very excited to welcome Introspekt onto our guest mix series all the way from Los Angeles! With exceptional mixes on foundation fm, Balamii, Rinse and on her Threads Residency, Introspekt has established herself as a key player within the international garage community. However, Introspekt has a broad variety of musical influences revealed in her eclectic GAB guest mix. Kicking things off with some bumpy garage, Introspekt delves into her dubstep collection before launching into some outrageous 160 business to wrap things up. 

As well as being a highly talented DJ, Introspekt also is an incredible producer and has included some of her unreleased productions in this mix! Make sure you check out her tunes when they hit the platforms and keep an eye out for Introspekt’s empowering study of “Gender as Social Relation.”

GAB MIX 040 - INTROSPEKT

Maya Q releases her debut EP for Scuffed Recordings, weaving together her own unique take on influences from across the UK dance music spectrum. The New England-born, London-based DJ and producer has been building momentum throughout 2021, both with her productions and as a resident of the Co-Select collective. 

The ‘Spiral’ EP follows Maya’s appearance on the Scuffed Presents 005 compilation in early 2021 with her track ‘Belief’, which saw support from Jaguar and Jess Iszatt on BBC Introducing, among others. 

Since then, Maya released her ‘I Just Wanna’ EP through DJ Pitch and Simkin’s All Centre label, which further established her esoteric production style and her place as an artist to watch in the UK’s electronic music scene. 

Closing out the release is ‘Drumpack’, with Maya’s eerie melodic pads and veering synth line dancing over a skippy garage-inspired beat, before introducing a grinding bassline in the second half of the track.

Presenting DBGI004- a hot and messy, sub dusting release from Chungo. Returning with a two track EP, designed to have you singing along to its melodies and moving your feet.

The first track ’Charcoal’ is a massive rainbow road bop, featuring Chungo’s groove at its finest, served up with a swinging dream of a melody which will keep you awake at night. The second track ‘Shuv It’, is an evolving pop group of pads and vocal stabs. Snappy percs and heavy sub frequencies, to conclude a two tracker made for DJs and movers.

Cal.Ske is a Tāmaki Makaurau-based DJ who draws inspiration from all corners of the music world. He learned to mix on a pair of his friend's CDJ 850s 4 years ago and never looked back. This year he started the project Glass Half Full as a platform for a wide variety of local artists & DJs to play shows, and post mixes + original music. Ahead of his debut TC performance, Cal weaves his way through some of his favourite sounds - from house and the underground sounds of UK garage and dubstep to the uptempo sounds of footwork and juke from Chicago.

Ep 270 pt.2 w/ Cal.Ske

Back in the summer, when the sun was out (if you can remember that far back), we gave away a free EP from a fresh future-trap label called Crystal Culture.

Featuring the close-knit names the label pledges to nurture, Chesslo Junior, Semedo and BNRY gave us a taste of what this promising little imprint has to offer, before it teamed up with MadTech for a cheeky party at Hoxton Arches.

This time, to help promote the launch of another release from the label, again by Chesslo Junior — 'YYXKK' (out 2nd November) — we have a remix from one of the brightest lights on the label, Pedro 123 under his DJ XX moniker, to giveaway.

It's a rave-y New Jersey take on the original, with militant toms and trap-y hi-hats, that has the minerals to slap sense into pretty much any dancefloor pumped up at peak time.

Other remixes come from SwamiMillion aka LV and Chicago dude DJ Spinn to make for a package that covers trap, footwork and Y3K post-dubstep.

The Bulgarian-born, Perth-based DJ and producer is one half of @bundemsound and co-founder of @thirddegreerecords. Coming from singing to Beats and learning how to produce on her own, she eventually got into electronic music and started to put out remixes. By now she’s a very active part of the local scene, promoting events and pushing forward-thinking club music, while frequently releasing some of the hottest club edits out there! 🔥

Guest Mix 006 - Nora Zion 100% Production Mix

This week it is our absolute pleasure to welcome two of our favourite DJs onto the series. As you all know, in the past we haven’t normally featured B2Bs on our guest mix series. However, when @ell_murphy and @ohmydais , two of the UK’s most exciting DJs got in touch we thought we could make an exception!!! 

There’s no doubt that Team Woibey and OBFC have reigned supreme this year. With mixes out on HÖR, Lobster Theremin, Foundation FM, Balamii and Rinse, there’s no doubt that Ell & Daisy’s sublime selections have been fully celebrated this year. 

In their B2B GAB guest mix, Ell & Daisy blend their way gracefully through a range of leftfield breakbeat soundscapes across the first 30 mins, with brief techno and ukg excursions. Following an outrageous donk transition, the mix’s second half sees Ell & Daisy push the tempo with jungle and hardcore selections that will leave u begging for IDs. 

What stunned us most about this mix was Ell & Daisy’s ability to capture a musical conversation while maintaining the mix’s seamless transitions. If you want to catch the duo in action get urselves down to Materials 4th Birthday this Friday at Werkhaus where they’ll be shelling out alongside an absolutely stacked line up!

GAB MIX 048 - ELL MURPHY B2B OHMYDAIS

Deep, dank and exhilarating, this week’s ride comes via Lala. Shell Tape 85 is one for late nights, single red light bulbs and heads down. Lather up and slide in, it’s “Rubba Dub Dub”.

Dub is indeed the theme of this Tape, with its eternal tendrils echoing throughout the mix, both literally and figuratively. Heavyweight chamber dubstep menacingly morphs into trippy drill club tools, with 808s booming and high hats clattering. Grimey bass, liquid lyrics and sledgehammer steppers all rub shoulders in a decidedly contemporary, genre-less and global take on dub’s endless offshoots.

Sounding like Grand Theft Auto: South London, Lala’s Shell Tape contribution covers classic dubstep sounds, boundary-pushing deconstructed club, timeless breaks and mutant bass music. It’s primal, it’s perfect and it’s thrilling, so hold tight and run it up.
