Gimme A Break Records are delighted to welcome Soul Mass Transit System to the GAB family for the label’s third physical release. Since launching Shall Not Fade’s Time Is Now sub-label with their ‘Original Bad Bwoy’ EP, D. Jason & Baby J. have consistently produced the finest in 2 Step, Speed Garage, Bassline, Breakbeat and Jungle. With releases on Locked On Records, Instinct, ec2a, Local Action and Ministry of Sound, it’s no surprise that SMTS were nominated as “Breakthrough Producer” in DJ Mag’s Best of British Awards 2022. Having worked with Bklava, DJ Q, Jamie Boy Bassline and Killa P, as well as recently joining 23 Degrees Artists and launching their own label Grand Soul Central, there is no doubt that Soul Mass Transit System is a household name in the UK’s underground electronic scene.

GAB003 sees Soul Mass at their most devilish. The record opens with the Breakbeat/UKG hybrid “Wait No More” which juxtaposes pensive vocals and harmonies with a crisp rolling break and a devastating bassline. “Lovin Me” follows with an equally sombre 2-step composition featuring the signature SMTS Reese bass. The flip side contains two of the most sought-after tracks produced by the Yorkshire duo. Soul Mass deliver a masterclass in speed garage production on “Real Love (Mercy Mix)” which has received support from the likes of Enzo Siragusa, Sage Introspekt and more. Finally, “Fly” delivers the Organ House/UKG crossover that the UK has been desperate for in the aftermath of “B.O.T.A”. First featured on Main Phase’s viral Keep Hush set for ec2a in February 2022, fans will undoubtedly be delighted that “Fly” is finally seeing the light of day.

Energies Flowing From UK to Japan. Excited to start 2021 with a bang, and share with you a project that we loved every minute of. An exploration into Japanese culture via our lens and working with various talented individuals through this opened door of collaboration. Big Up Keiju & Stones Taro, providing the UKG sounds of Kyoto. With Picasso & PJ Bridger representing London with two rudeboy rhythms. Artistically we also linked up with the majestic Masataka Yoshida aka @mzabc who executed our vision for the artwork in succulent fashion. To compliment that we decided to supply a 1990 Japanese inspired Instazine "Konbini" - speaking to some of the creators involved including UK/Japanese photographer Toby Sakata. Zine compiled by @Prfntsy

We hope this project gives a taster of what is to come for this year and a big thank you to everyone who came on this journey in 2020. Very grateful. To A Great 2021.
