For our fourth podcast we’ve invited the Swiss DJ and producer Opuswerk who’s also known for his work as Hiss:1292 (Opuswerk + François X). 

While being a driving force behind the techno movement of the western parts of Switzerland, Opuswerk's focus shifted to the harder shades of techno, delving into the depths of machine funk, darker rhythms, and hypnotic grooves.

His sonic researches in his Geneva based studio have allowed him to work with labels such as Plak, Steadfast, Knotweed, and more recently Krill Music, as well as to collaborate with François X (Dement3d, MDR, Concrete). The latter gave birth to the Hiss:1292 project which exclusively releases on the mighty french label: Dement3d records.

Both his solo work and his collaborative tracks have found their way and earned a place into some of the finest DJ bags, from Donatto Dozzy to Lucy, Milton Bradley, Ben Sims or DVS1. As with hidden gems, they keep on getting played, years after their release thanks to their classic feel and modern qualities.

His skills on the decks, honed since the early noughties, and his ability to craft DJ sets into trance inducing moments have not only earned him a residency for the ‘Techno Legends’ nights at le Zoo, but also allowed him to play around Europe from Tresor to Batofar and Zukunft as well as for diverse festivals, from Club Transmediale to Kazantip.

UBEK - II (Tape edit preview)

This is a continuous audio recording of the Floyd protest in Seattle Washington on the evening of May 30, 2020. PLEASE listen to this recording on headphones or nice speakers.

This recording starts around 5:30 pm after the initial peaceful protest had turned violent. Rain is pouring from the sky. As soon as I approach the point of conflict the action gets heavy. Around 2:30 you will hear a girl crying from pepper spray and shortly after (4:45) a rioter smashing a window about 10 feet on my right. This is followed by a large deployment of flash bang grenades and tear gas. The rest of the recording is a gradual back and forth as the cops attempt to push protestors out of the city. Even though there was plenty of rioting and looting happening at this time, the strong majority of the protestors in the area remained peaceful.

This was recorded on a Sound Devices MixPre-10 II and an ORTF mic rig containing two Sennheiser 8040s. Since it was raining so heavily I was also equipped with proper rain protection.
