The HummingBird Sessions came at a time in bands life that saw them add another guitar player with a whimsical shredding ability and musical dexterity, Big Matt. With his additional rhythms and dual leads on the album, Legend was free to begin exploring his more guitar aesthetics and style, as seen on the opus and true fan favorite 'Application Song' and the sorely slept-on 'This Time', a track that is ripe for a new reboot in the year 2020, which it will be. Standouts like the thunder riffs of 'Ashes', a fan favorite 'Empty Pretty Box', which in itself is one of Gina Hates Me's wackiest offerings, offering up nods to Space Ghost, dual harmonies, a memorable guitar line right next to Slash's 'Sweet Child Of Mine', and flashing a punk-like ending that ends at a rapid pace of nonsense. 

The albums features the second time they tackled 'This Time', 'Can't See',  all seminal tunes that were destined for a top 40 spot. Set closer 'Far Away Son' makes its official debut, as well as 'Fuzzy Purple Crystals with Gumby and Pokey', a song that you kind of have to hear to truly understand why Gina Hates Me was ahead of the curve, exploring all avenues with no rules applied, yet controlling the chaos within the music.

This also introduced the first song sung by Legend, the insane rocker 'Mike Tyson's Testicle', which is an obvious nod to Queens of The Stone Age and Nirvana's dirty rawk songs. The band exudes lots of energy this session, and you can hear it plainly in this song. Not performed much since the debut, it did remain a sound-checked favorites of theirs for years to come. 

The HummingBird Sessions demonstrated where Gina Hates Me were headed, and that big ideas and bigger structured operas that were to come on their next album. The band wasn't done yet trying to explore everything they could, including music, drugs, new members and dramas.

Gina Hates me Returns after a 15 years officially with their new single, Monet Mic(Am I Going Fast Enough), with the two founding members Buck Wayne and Legend returning with something...different. But after all, what else would you have expected after so many years apart? This is prime example of what Gina Hates me does: take a few genre's, throw them in a blender, add some salsa, magic and herbal remedies, you got yourself a new song by Gina Hates me, their first new song in 15 years!

It started over a mutual respect of their music tastes. While both loved the typical classic metal bands as Metallica and Queensryche, they also had a pension for bands that pushed things forward, like Faith No More, Talking Heads, Kraftwerk, Radiohead and Frank Zappa. In late 1999, the album ‘The Soft Bulletin’ was released by one of their favorite bands, The Flaming Lips, which changed their musical visions forever, of what things could be and how they SHOULD be as well. 

While Buck Wayne was introducing the idea of a forward-thinking band, Legend was crafting his songs in other acts that he was involved in, being in bands since the age of 12. Buck never did the band thing before, but was encouraged to do so under the guidance of Legend, Buck was looking for something that changed the landscape yet remained grounded, and during a drunken night after he muttered the phrase “even Gina hates me”…everything changed.  That’s all it took. 

Legend began writing songs with Buck as soon as possible. They set out initially to record an EP, a few songs, and get the word out there that there was a band that wasn’t interested in looking, sounding, acting, dressing and getting their hair did and nails done like everyone else. No genre was off the table. No rules were applied. Although still grounded, the EP, appropriately titled ‘Squidmarks’, proved with songs like ‘The Noise Song’ and ‘Worship My Salt’, that Gina Hates Me was not going to play the average material for average music fans. Throwing in the Ska-fused original ‘Les B Frens’, which was an ode to getting that post-date call back, the metal crush of ‘Offer Up’ and the acoustic Zeppelin nod ‘Run Away’, the band set out to find a permanent band members. ‘The Eschman Sessions’, in which they came into their own with their opus ‘The Drinking Song’, blending a honkytonk ragtime piano riff with Queen-like melodies and blistering guitar solos. With updated versions of their past hits like “Let’s Be Friends’(spelled differently for every album it was recorded on), a intense funk-tastic ‘Ride Your Man’, the spacey stoner rock pumping of ‘Lick’ and the highway rocker of ‘Look What She Did To Me’, it pushed Gina Hates Me to thrive on  not settling for anything less than a stoney good time with their songs. In 2010, the Gina Hates Me reunited for one last show, superbly dubbed ‘The Final Farewell Countdown Reunion Show’, which saw them play their greatest hits, some misses, and basically be who they were for one last night. The live album was released some time later, and it clearly demonstrated what Gina Hates Me was about: fun, experimenting, marijuana use. Gina Hates Me did what they wanted, as their former manager would coin the perfect phrase that summed up Gina Hates Me; “Just because you can do it, never means you SHOULD’, which would be a mantra for them a decade later. 

In late 2019, Buck Wayne and Legend became reacquainted after several years of living apart. The reunion was what was needed to spark that interest of continuing the music that never died. They decided late in 2019 that Gina Hates Me will live again, this time with a new lineup and new souls to incorporate into their unique brand of wackiness. 

Then 2020 happened. 

So while the live prospects are on hold, which the band has already found a new bassist that will be announced later this year, Gina Hates Me’s two founding fathers are busy at work writing and recording new music, soon to be releasing not only an updated 20th Anniversary Re-Release of their first album ‘Squidmarks’, but will also be releasing a revised and rebooted version of all of their classic hits for their forthcoming greatest hits package, ‘Gina Hates Me 2020:20 Years Of Hating Gina & What We Could Do, Not Should Do’, to be released on the night before Halloween, Devil’s Night, later this year. Gina Hates Me is officially alive and well, ready to destroy expectations, haters, dreams and relationships.
