Ginger And The Ghost arrived in 2012 with early support from Triple J in Australia for their debut single ‘Where Wolf’ and global tastemakers embraced their alternative pop artistry. 

The partnership of Missy and Daniel, two mixed media visual artists who make up Ginger and The Ghost was created through a desire to do something for themselves, on their own terms. Hiding away in a converted water tank in the Australian bush, the duo were able to find the freedom to create. 

In March 2013, Ginger And The Ghost generated a huge buzz from their successful North American tour, including six SXSW shows, CMW, four in New York and ending the tour with a sold out San Francisco show supporting Poolside. Topping of this tour their single ‘One Type Of Dark’ reached No. 1 on the Hypem chart, which has hit over half a million plays.

A national Australian tour for their One Type Of Dark EP followed in July, sending key Australian media such as Groupie magazine into a frenzy over their incredible self made costuming and avant garde live set design. Their latest single ‘The Mark Of Hearts’ recently drew the praises of global tastemakers such as Nylon Magazine and more.

Performing at Bigsound in September 2013, the band returned to the US in October for a string of blistering sets at New York’s CMJ Convention. In 2014 Ginger And The Ghost will be gracing the UK for the first time with showcases at the Great Escape in May. In March 2014 Ginger And The Ghost will launch their next EP – Call Up The Whales in conjunction with a national EP Tour.

Emerging alt-folk artist Amaroun has announced the forthcoming release of her debut single Bed Bugs. The Northamptonshire singer songwriter’s first effort is a powerful introduction to her unique sound, shaped by her distinctive mix of cultures and upbringing that was naturally embedded in the alternative scene from a young age.

Drawing influences from the likes of Beck, Eels and Sharon Van Etten, Amaroun’s direction and identify has been very clear from her youth, and an awareness of her sound from a technological and sonic point of view exemplifies the rising star’s undoubted ability.

Amaroun’s passion for music goes beyond the self; as an artist she spends time working on her collective and annual festival Greenstone in her hometown where she provides a platform for other incredible musicians to showcase their artistic talent.

Bed Bugs is an exciting taste of what’s to come from Amaroun in 2016, with her new material set to be accompanied by a stream of animated videos that tell a story in abstract fashion, which add a beautiful display of collaboration between animation and music.

To celebrate the release of Bed Bugs, a gig will be taking place on 18th March at Rye Lane, London (7pm).

Amaroun’s Bed Bugs (produced by Kristofer Harris) is released on 14th March via YOY Records and will be available to purchase on iTunes and Spotify.

Dog Orchestra – “Hotel”

Reflecting on the origin of their band, Dog Orchestra’s Daniel says, “We never wanted it to be about us. We wanted it to be about the band and the music as a separate entity.” Adds Niklas, “As much as I love being part of Dog Orchestra I want to enjoy it the same way an audience member might. No wall between the band and the listener—that’s the goal.”
The band was born of Niklas and Daniel’s artistic synergy. With mutual interests in everything from indie rock to dance to hip hop, they joined a few pop bands, which ultimately imploded. Says Niklas, “It wasn’t until me and Daniel moved in together that I felt the music began to sound as good as it should.” The new roommates wrote four songs in just one weekend. “We inseparable after that, and I remember my sister telling me that my dad thought we were a couple.” 
They started recording guest vocals for their EP in Stockholm, before relocating to Berlin, where they recorded “Hotel,” among other songs. “It’s less restricted than Stockholm, where everything is clean and at a right angle—even the crooked ones are calculated,” says Daniel. Berlin’s grittier culture represented possibility. “It’s a city in shambles being rebuilt. The opportunities felt less policed. Like the whole city needs a good paint job, and no one is looking over your shoulder telling you how to paint it.” Their experience followed in kind.
Sweden has become synonymous for proffering songwriters who craft tech-savvy pop songs perfectly calibrated to become ear candy. Dog Orchestra is not that. An unfettered experiment, the group makes music as emotional and organic as its following. “We make music without much intellectualizing. Any connections or themes are subconscious,” Daniel says. “There’s something inspiring about an empty space that you move into. You see endless freedom of possibilities.”

They have built a grassroots following in Europe across the indie festival circuit with their unique musical vision drawing on Luminaries such as Björk, Fever Ray, Bat for Lashes and Iamamiwhoami.
Their avant- garde approach has captivated festival audiences with highly theatrical and visually compelling live shows, at B-sides, Malta, Serralves Em Festa, Milhoes da Festa, Sinsal, Meadows In The Mountains, sharing the stage with Poolside, Destroyer, Chelsea Wolfe, Jacco Gardner and Young Magic.
