It was a digital set, but I decided to only play tracks on sale in the record shop at the time. 
The shops eclectic house collection is reflected in the choices, with the mix having a funkier start and continuing with some tougher tracks, and even a bit of trance at the end. All tracks are from the last 20 years.

Kaitzy was only 17 when we recorded this interview in 2023 and she already had lots of gigs under her belt. A combination of her love of music and determination, Kaitzy had already made in-roads into the Lancaster and Morecambe scene, helped by the huge support of her parents. 

Kaitzy and her mum Ruth, share their perspectives on the local scene. Kaitzy also shared some fantastic insights into what we can learn from the early days of house music and clubbing.

Ep 3 - Kaitzy Interview with Ginny Koppenhol - November 2023

Andy Stoddon has been hugely influenced by electronic music, and in turn, was instrumental in the early development of the scene in Lancaster and Morecambe in the early 90s, along with others who were passionate about bringing people together in this way. 

In this interview, he shares many of these early experiences, as well as his links with Manchester and the free parties in Blackburn and beyond. 

Andy is thankfully still DJing and making music in Lancaster, so do check him out when you can. He tells us that he's on a never-ending quest for his next favourite tune, past or present.

Dave Shooter is a live electronic artist who goes by the moniker, Guerrilla Biscuits, and runs a fantastic night in Lancaster called Hymns for Robots. 

Dave talks about growing this experimental scene in the city, and how he's discovered a UK wide network of passionate musicians (some of the loveliest and most supportive in the music world he attests).

Ep 5 - Dave Shooter (AKA Guerrilla Biscuits) Interview with Ginny Koppenhol, Feb 25

I spoke to Stephen Grimes, Grimesy, who is a big part of the drum and bass scene in the Lancaster area. 
He spoke about all sorts of things, from getting his first set of decks given to him by a mate (that had slugs in because they hadn’t been used for so long!), through to recent national radio airplay for one of his tracks. He also spoke about the loss of the free party scene, which was influential for him starting out. But he's quite hopeful about what's happening in our scene at the minute.

Garry Walker, Nathan Bentley and Josh Allen are JuiceBox, a DJ collective who also put on some superb events in Lancaster & Morecambe. 

Their passion for the scene is clear and I loved their appreciation for the craft of DJing and the need to create community when putting on nights. 

Garry and Josh joined me for a conversation about (amongst other things); how they met, their approach to event promotion, the time the floor nearly fell in during an event at a vegan café, and how dance music societies at universities could be an important factor in helping the scene to continue.

Charlie has so many layers to her musical experiences so far... from starting at the Royal Northern College of Music studying opera singing, to creating eclectic electro pop under her musical moniker Shelectro. 
She is passionate about supporting other women and encouraging them to get involved in the electronic music scene. 
Charlie hails from Manchester so I was very interested to hear about her transition to our much smaller city of Lancaster.

Live recording of NYE 2012 set @ Sauce'd, Kendal

I came to DJing later than most. I visited Ibiza when I was 23, saw Lisa Lashes play and immediately decided I was going to learn to DJ. Hard house wasn't my really thing but she definitely inspired me that night. I got back home, bought the cheapest set of belt-drive decks I could find and taught myself to DJ. 
I love house in all its forms. I am drawn to tech-house beats predominantly, and am a sucker for anything with ravey vibes and acid house influences. But I pride myself in being able to craft awesome warm-up sets too, reading the crowd and always having one foot on the dancefloor. So I can go more downtempo, melodic, or minimal too.
A few highlights so far...
* Becoming Skiddle's resident DJ in 2010 after playing at The Wickerman Festival
* Warming up for Steve Lawler and James Lavelle 
* DJing at The Warehouse Project
* Producing a track that was played by Danny Rampling whilst I was in the club
* Interviewing Graeme Park.
