Here is Modern Amusement Podcast 03...I was enjoying a caipirinha in my hotel room on my last night in Sao Paulo this weekend, when I heard a rapid metallic knock at the door…   Thinking it was an errant room service, when I opened the door and saw nothing I was shocked…

Until I heard a series of bleeps and tones and a shiver coming from the ground and looked down.  I was surprised to see b6 the backwards motion robot again.  He was shivering and cold to the touch and his outstretched claw held a disc labeled “Lee Foss – Modern Amusement Podcast 03”   below was a a message from a future me that this was a recording of an old school house set from the early 2000's played at the 2088 Neptune Ball.  While excited to see more evidence that in the future both time travel and planetary colonies are possible I was disappointed that once again there was no tracklisting on the disc.

hadn't played an all vinyl set in 8 years, so it was cool go back through records and to buy some new ones.  not sure i'd want to lug them around all the time but it wont be my last all vinyl set and glad there was such a positive response.

Popart are the dynamic duo Riccardo Amatucci and Kandja Kabamba who believe it’s not about the music.
It’s about a creative journey. They are both so different as individuals, and have combined to bring a hybrid of structure and spontaneity to each track, with the result lying before you. This is achieved through the differences in influences as Ricky, the backbone and foundations to the sound, is dance and house based having been a Dj for many years prior to Pop Art. Martin, who brings a more creative colour, stems from an indie electronic musical background that combined with the dance sound creates the hybrid Pop Art.
Their debut single for Outcross Records is titled ‘The Spell’ and features remixes by Miguel Campbell and Mam.
Opening the single is the title track The Spell. Here the guys explore the realms of nu disco with a sumptuous chord structure and complimenting guitar lick, layered with a smooth vocal. Miguel Campbell adds a 90’s r’n’b vybe with his soul edit and then teams up with Matt Hughes for a Mam remix which changes the pace by way of an up-lifting club cut. Popart then offer another original called Florescent Love, a deeper and melancholic piano driven groove and for the remix, Miguel employs his signature glossy funk sound and warm slo-mo bassline to close the release.

After the success of his debut album ‘Back In Flight School’ on Hot Creations, Miguel Campbell has spent the last three years living in Ibiza, dividing his time between touring and the studio. Since returning to his hometown of Leeds last year, his production output has been prolific, with a slew of original tracks and remixes coming through his own Outcross Records imprint, the same label that will release forthcoming second artist album, ‘Night Drive Without You’ on 11th December in both double pack vinyl and digitally.

Referencing the style of some of his early work and featuring a variety of both vocal and instrumental cuts, the disco-tinged layers of all 15 tracks make a firm nod towards the French touch scene of the late 90s and early 2000s, but despite the retro influences, Miguel’s skill here lies in creating a body of work that sounds both fresh and futuristic. Rumbling basslines and glossy, electro synths combine perfectly on the future-facing ‘Melody of Love’, while on final track ’Light and Darkness’ he demonstrates a similar balance; incorporating computerised vocal, underpinned by heavy bass licks - the airy vocal countered by the weight of the low end.

Vocal tracks on the album feature the talents of both Benjamin Diamond, who appeared on Stardust’s ‘Music Sounds Better With You’ and frequent collaborator Beccs Lott, joining Miguel on ‘Not That Kind of Girl’ and more recently on his ‘Free Falling’ EP. ‘Run With Me’ in particular showcases the synergy between the pair on a track full of verve and bounce, while on ‘Interfunk Music’, he joins forces with Diamond to cosmic, spaced-out effect, with Diamond's hazy, hollowed-out tones adding a new dimension to the record.

A natural extension of ‘Back In Flight School’, ‘Night Drive Without You’ is built to take listeners on an abstract, heartfelt journey through a mix of house, funk, jazz and disco - a fluid collection of styles that are now a hallmark of Miguel Campbell records. Bold and exciting, it’s an album ready to make its mark.

We'll happily admit that we've missed French Touch here at Data Transmission. Having soundtracked a number of our staff's musically formative teenage years, our love of the retrofitted sounds emanating from Paris at the turn of the century has been one of the few constants in our journey towards alleged maturity.  Thus you can imagine our excitement when Miguel Campbell's hotly anticipated sophomore album, ‘Night Drive Without You’ landed in our inbox, channelling the spirit of the late 90s whilst remaining forward thinking.

Arriving three years on from the successful release of his debut full length effort, ‘Back In Flight School’ for Hot Creations, Campbell has spent the last three years living in Ibiza, dividing his time between touring and the studio. A fateful return to his hometown of Leeds then saw him further up his studio game for 2015, with a slew of original tracks and remixes coming through his own Outcross Records imprint, the same label that will release his forthcoming album.

Billed as an "abstract, heartfelt journey through a mix of house, funk, jazz and disco" ‘Night Drive Without You’ features the talents of both Benjamin Diamond, who appeared on Stardust’s ‘Music Sounds Better With You’ and frequent collaborator Beccs Lott, who joined Miguel on ‘Not That Kind of Girl’ and more recently on his ‘Free Falling’ EP. It's the latter who features on today's exclusive premiere with Lott delivering her distinctive vocals over our favourite song on the album, 'The Night Life'.

Telling the story of a worried girlfriend, unable to sleep whilst her boyfriend's 'out there running the streets', it's a track sure to sound just as good as it does now in five years time.

Having kick-started the year spearheading Tribal Sessions parties across the UK and releasing new MAM album, ‘Garden of Eternal Summers’, Miguel Campbell has announced new solo LP, ‘Memoirs’, ahead of its release via Outcross Records on May 5th.

Through tracks like ‘Chemistry’, ‘Own Thing’ and ‘Everlasting’, Miguel explores a range of both sounds and crucially, emotions, that have defined his years in dance music. Also nodding to the classic French touch sound - one his production work has long been renowned for - on tracks like ‘Knightmare’, a raft of punchier, peak-time house grooves also punctuate ‘Memoirs’ - an album that listens like the most versatile of his three studio albums to date.

Taking one final twist is ‘Bad Tube’ - a track defined by its deeper and darker tones - before classically synth-driven roller ‘Stay Alive’ signs off on an LP awash with slick arrangements, classic sounds and most importantly, an undeniably personal feel.

The high voltage ‘Electricity’ kicks things off with the sensational voice of Anabel Englund leading the way. The deep, slow grooves ride effortlessly through the track with a breath-taking break down filled with electric bolts and melodic synth keys.

‘Goodnight Moon’ is the second on offer from Lee and Marc and boasts a heavy bass, beautiful synths patterns and infectious groove. The atmosphere in the track is filled with layers of intricate percussions and luscious melodies, while the interesting vocals make this really stand out from the rest.

Over on the B-side Lee takes the reins with ‘Could Be’, effortlessly swarming the mind with soaring synths, soft R n’B style vocals and lo-slung driving bass lines, while the trippy keys are destined to hypnotize you on the dancefloor.

Rounding off ‘B5 the Dinks’ is aimed straight at the dancefloor. Packed full of groove with an intoxicating bassline, the high-pitched warbling keys, vocals and crowd noises add a new dimension and make this a real party track. (Maouris)
