Aiguillage (Switches & Crossings)

Collaboration with Chinese experimental musician Dickson Dee. It is based on his sounds, a part of 'Blind Man Tales' by Gintas Kraptavicius & found sound by Emmanuel Mieville. The starting point was my poem 'Do You Dream About Me?'. The poem is read by Cheri Gao. It's a dreamy & sometimes noisy piece of 18 minutes in total. An intriguing combination of quiet, loud and found sound. It is very well crafted & i am proud to be part of this magnificent team! Dedicated to the late great noisemaster Zbigniew Karkowski. The title of the work reflects the sound synthesis and treatment techniques as well as the qualities of the sound  textures employed here. The events portrayed in this piece are fictitious, and any resemblance to real events, past, present, or future, is entirely coincidental but highly probable. The work was realised at the composer’s home studio in the fall of 2011.

Terra

Nouvelle, est une création sonore librement inspirée de la Légende de Saint Julien l’Hospitalier, dans la version de Gustave Flaubert tirée de Trois contes.
Le texte s'est ici quasiment « absenté » pour servir de partition à la composition qui mêle voix, instruments traditionnels et électroniques, musique concrète. 
Cette pièce s'inscrit dans le cadre des Traductions, un projet qui consiste à utiliser une oeuvre préexistante comme "partition" d'une nouvelle réalisation sonore. Le premier volet "Quatuor" (commande du GRM 2011) se base sur le 10ème Quatuor à cordes de Beethoven. A venir, "Dessin" qui utilisera les dessins muraux de l'artiste américain Sol Lewitt.  Pour "Nouvelle" le matériau sonore a été constitué uniquement à partir des phrases du texte qui décrivent des situations sonores ou contiennent des dialogues. Ces sons ont été agencés en fonction de leur position dans le texte. La composition consiste ensuite à construire l'itinéraire qui relie ces moments sonores.
Finalement Nouvelle propose une abstraction de La Légende de Saint Julien, tout en conservant son atmosphère surnaturelle.

L'auteur
Né en 1977, Sébastien Roux vient du rock avant d’entamer une carrière de compositeur de musique électronique, en enregistrement ou en concert, mais aussi performances audiovisuelles, musique pour la danse, art radiophonique, ciné-concerts, installations sonores.
Parallèlement, Sébastien Roux travaille comme assistant musical à l’IRCAM avec les compositeurs Gérard Pesson et Georges Aperghis.
