Astral Records opens the fall season by welcoming Bolth to the label for his debut EP. Hailing from Brazil, Bolth is a DJ, producer, and multi-instrumentalist who has carved out his own unique place in the electronic music underground. With a clever co-ax of classic elements from the 70s and 80s with the melodic heart of house Music, Bolth creates a sonic intersection with technos foundational roots. A signature sound marked by crisp grooves, exacting sound design, and the symbiotic fusion of analog synths with digital undertones. First emerging in 2021 on the strength of his early tracks, Bolth would go on to compile an impressive resume across the next three calendar years, notching standout projects for ERRORR, New Tab Music, Panda Lab and Purified. Now, as 2024 reaches its final quarter, Bolth follows an excellent offering for SPECIES with his Astral Records debut Beyond Control. Beginning with the title selection, Bolth showcases a peak time approach which sets the tone for the EP. Full of colourful textures and cutting edge design qualities, the Brazilian smoothly blends punchy kick drums and tough undulating grooves, with fragmented synth mutations and roboticized vocals for an exhilarating journey into the break. Further revealing his creative attitude across the interlude, its a stereo field of hyperbolic effects and anticipatory tones which marry beautifully for a healthy dose of melodic tension, before a wave of drums cues a bass-driven drop and effects-laden finale. Rounding out the release are the mesmerizing sounds of Disruption. Tight, compact and bursting with mysterious energies, the tracks first movement is built around machine-gun grooves, spacey effects and hook-heavy arps, the latter of which carries a hip-swinging energy into the break. The narrative continues to progress across interlude, with trance-inducing bass tones and metallic motifs eventually revealing a flurry of pyrotechnic synths, one which pushes onwards to a finale that is equal parts groove-centric and cosmic.

German duo Avidus bring their spellbinding style to Crosstown this March. The pair have conceived a four track EP that serves to showcase their unique sound.

Avidus ​have produced a mesmerising EP that submerges the listener in an intriguing sonic soundscape. Speaking of the creative process, they ​explain that “​the first sketches of ​‘XII’ and ‘Psalm 23’ were made in 2015/2016 during the process of producing tracks for our first live sets. The focus was on powerful elements that have an emotional impact on whoever was listening”. ​On title track ​XII prominent drums arise alongside dramatic strings that create a track full of suspense. ​Psalm 23 ​opens with an ethereal vocal sample that bleeds into a high-octane beat that’s pacing and intense. On the flip, “​more recent tracks ‘Lux’ and the new edit of ‘Revenge of the Whales’ balance the EP out very nicely on an emotional level”. Lux i​ s a dreamy and emotive number, calmer than its predecessors with a breathtaking breakdown, whilst ​last year’s ​Revenge Of The Whales ​gets a rework for Crosstown. Avidus conclude; “​we’re proud to share this release”.

Hailing from Kiel in North Germany Fritz Wagner and Marc Wolf, aka ​Avidus​, ​have forged a strong partnership over the years. Fritz began producing music in the late 90s, making Hip Hop beats and pop music before moving on to house. During his early years, Marc produced backing tracks for hardcore bands before DJ’ing at illegal, outdoor raves. He started his own night ENDVR at Kiel’s Luna Club, where he invited guest such as Âme, Roman Flügel, Barnt and Marcus Worgull. Their diverse musical tastes and influences are apparent in their music, which refuses to be confined to any one genre. The duo launched their own imprint Empore Music in 2014 that has charted releases from Johannes Albert amongst others.

German based Hannes Bieger has been a No.1 selling artist on Beatport whose melodic tracks have been released on labels such as John Digweed's Bedrock and Steve Bug's Poker Flat.

Hannes Bieger's new release is forthcoming on Davide Squillace's label This And That Lab, and the EP also features remixes by Rodriguez Jr. and Alfa Romero.

Rodriguez Jr. is a French artist who's in constant demand playing in clubs all over the world along with releasing on high profile labels such as Anjunadeep, Mobilee and Systematic.

Italian duo Alfa Romero are also of a high pedigree with a back catalogue including a wide selection of labels including tracks and remixes on imprints ranging from SCI+TEC to Akbal Music.

Opening the EP is the original version of 'Tharsis' which begins with an arpeggiated melody of a subdued lead synth that slowly swells with tension underneath swooping pads and fizzing percussion. Melodic house with just the right amount of tech, this track is both epic and hypnotic.

Second is the remix by Rodriguez Jr. whose version draws on the arpeggiated synth from the original so it becomes the main focus of his toughened rework. He also adds his own melody part and builds towards a euphoric breakdown before the kick slams in for a shadowy outro full of twists and turns.

Alfa Romero provide the second remix of Tharsis for track three, but for this version they decide to take a deeper and more ethereal approach leading to an extended breakdown filled with percussive textures. Hauntingly beautiful, this version focuses on atmosphere to build tension.

Finishing the release is 'Elysium' that has ticking percussion over bursts of white noise that cuts through the expansive mix filled with cosmic vibes. Brooding with bass throbs, the unfolding horizon of sound conjures dystopian images, and creates a sonic tapestry perfect for twisting the senses of those on the dance floor.

On remix duties we got the eclectic and innovative Theus Mago delivering a really huge re-interpretation of the track, adding even more organic flavoured notes to the picture. "Beetlejuice" is the dessert of these timeless menu, and it offers some surprising sounds and noises in an incredible breakdown.
