Astronomy has been a deep inspiration for me, from the very beginning. My first visits to the Eugenides Planetarium, in Athens, as a young kid were crucial for the bond which was formed between these two elements of my creative muse. Then, Carl Sagan came along and expanded everything. Whatever I watch there above, in the great cosmos of the universe’s past, finds a connection with the people who form my personal cosmos, in the present. 
That’s what “Polaris” is all about.

Polaris

Taken from the album "Beyond the Horizon".

This composition was formed as a solo piano tune, before Elisabeth put her world in it. She sent me an improvisation she had done after listening to it for the first time, which left me spellbound. A few days  later, in the studio, I was witnessing this music becoming something beyond my imagination. This was how I had first listened to Elisabeth’s voice, 30 years ago, and it was a fulfilling experience watching her unfold how the music made her feel.

Tranquility (feat: Elisabeth Karatzoli)

This is the very beginning! A composition from the first theatrical play I wrote music for, in a new arrangement. The play was a combination of “Yerma” and “Blood  wedding”, named “Yerma, if she had left”. Eleftheria’s singing and theatrical background, captured  the atmosphere of the song, exactly the way I had imagined it in this revisited approach.

A part of my work, during the last 17 years, has to do with poetry set to music. Napoleon Lapathiotis was the first poet who ignited my focus on this endeavour and the one whose poems appear the most in comparison to others. Elisabeth, furthermore, has a preference in singing music for poems. Her voice captured the spectrum of the song in all its elements, both the dramatic and the lyrical.

Quiet nest

Taken from the album "Beyond the Horizon".

This is yet another piece of music composed for the theatre. In the play "A dream play" (August Strindberg), it was part of a  larger piece of music, though it possesses an autonomous character and mood. Nenia was called to capture the calmness of the breeze and the inner power of the strong wind. She has this element in her voice, of being a fairy and  a lightning spark, at the same time.

Aria of the wind (feat. Nenia Stefanou)

This is dedicated to my uncle, Nick, who was a dedicated tailor, an artist with fabrics and threads as his instruments. It was at his house that I used to experiment on my cousin's upright piano, before owning my own.

Tailor's tack

Taken from the album "Beyond the Horizon".

It was the summer of 2021, and wildfires were burning a very large part of Northern Evia, Parnitha mountain and the Peloponesse, in Greece. A few months later, I got to visit one of these places. Walking amongst the burnt trees, Nature’s pain and extended disaster formed a green leaf of hope for our Mother, a wishful rebirth.

Rebirth

South Lasithi has one of the darkest skies in Greece. Living in such a place while recording the album, gave me a strong connection with the Cosmos above us.  
January 2021 -pandemic in action- through silence and sky harmonies an improvisation emerges; one that sounds like a window, open to tomorrow.

The Earth is our home, Nature hosts us and teaches us!
Harmony and balance are discovered whenever we interact with her.
I imagined the strings as a forest’s hug, the piano as small drops of rain, watering the soil, liberating our soul, shaping the way to a brighter new day.
Nature’s way, not the human’s way.

Breath of life

Taken from the album "Beyond the Horizon".

I had the privilege of meeting the professor and experience his magnitude and humility. Also, my friends Simos and Fiori, his students at the University, always provided stories of his greatness. On the night of May 3rd 2020 I learnt the news of his passing, during a general lockdown. This is what came up the next day, as it was recorded on the house piano.
The Professor’s wisdom is what I wanted to convey through his own voice.

- “Our routes, our history, teach us our past so that we can move forward into the future.“ 
- “Let’s become wiser through knowledge, which of course can evolve through teaching.” 
- “When you share your knowledge, you don’t lose it, you still have it. Therefore I’m very  happy when I can give without losing.” 
- “I consider ‘filotimo’ to be the highest Greek virtue, which defines and regulates the way we interact socially. Generally, it is about giving without expecting anything in return.“ 
- “Let’s think a little deeper concerning out existence in this beautiful world”

Ad astra (to the stars)(Musical eulogy for Prof. John Hugh Seiradakis)

Giorgio Lucetti was born in Athens, has origins from Ierapetra, Crete, and is the father of one child. He studied piano in Athens, and officially began his artistic career in 1996. He has directed and participated, either as a soloist, or accompanying professional singers, in concerts and musical performances in Chania, Ierapetra, Corfu, Thessaloniki, Athens and Elefsina, in Heraklion, Malia, Sitia, Patras, and Brussels. His art-works contain autonomous piano compositions, melodic lyrics in the form of folk and art songs, as well as musical poems. He has a number of different personal productions with various collaborators, which combine lyrical and socially conscious songs; placing Music in a dynamic dialogue with other art forms, such as the Word, and other forms of communication.
