In this episode I speak to Jane Da Mosto, an environmental scientist and campaigner whose work is focussed on climate change, wetland ecology and sustainable development. Jane is the co-founder of the NGO We Are Here Venice which is involved in highlighting the many challenges Venice faces using academic research. I interviewed Jane after we met for lunch in Venice, and we discussed specifically the problems of Venice's lagoon, along with the impact of Venice's Biennale.

Institute where he directs the Venice and Santa Fe Project Centres. He launched the SerenDPT project
in Venice whose mission is to help repopulate Venice by supporting the creation of start-ups that will
produce high quality jobs in the historic city. We focus our discussion on the problems of depopulation and the impact on Venice and its lagoon from boat traffic and the wakes this produces.

In this episode I speak to I speak to Tom Spencer who is Professor of Coastal Dynamics and Director of the Cambridge Coastal Research Unit at the university of Cambridge, where he is also a Fellow of Magdalene College.
 
Over the last twenty years Tom has been involved in research into flooding and the environmental challenges facing the city of Venice and its lagoon.
 
We begin our conversation discussing the MOSE flood barriers at the mouth of the inlets to the Venice lagoon, which leads to a discussion about nature -based solutions to safeguard Venice, versus engineering your way out of environmental problems. We also touch on the problems of over-tourism.
