Glenn Underground needs little introduction. Raised on disco classics and freeform jazz on Chicago’s southside and taking cues from deep house pioneers Larry Heard, Ron Hardy and Lil’ Louis, Glenn Underground has built a formidable catalogue of soulful, deep house records for labels such as Casual, Prescription, Peacefrog and his own Strictly Jaz Unit. He turns in a deeply musical rework of Nobody Like U — the Dancer’s Cielo mix — that steadily evolves over its six minute runtime. It takes several harmonic twists and turns, showcasing both Glenn’s skill as a keyboard and bass player and his ear for Mizell-inspired arrangements.
