One the biggest and busiest sounding tracks I did with the Wavestation was called "All In". I did that one, and was so wowed by just how huge it sounded, and how complex (for me) it was, that I thought it needed an introduction piece for it. So I made, "All In (Prelude)" and here is it. It sets the tone that something is coming up, and I will post that piece later this week ...

This is an upbeat and completely improvised little piece from 2006, "Almost Lost", with the emphasis on the Almost part. I love putting part of the intro ... into the outro, and this time it really worked well IMO. All Yamaha great again here, DX7II D and TG300 mixed with the crunchy sounding RY10 drum machine. I bought, used, sold, sometimes bought again, all kinds of gear. What's strange is that some of the stuff I used quite a bit, appears nowhere in any of the music that I saved. Weird! 

The title came from this period of time being a hard one, but I still persevered and stayed on the grassy side of the Earth. In the end, not lost at all.

A very distorted and strange little fit, done in 2022. It's not at all calm or soothing like a lot of the music I attempt. The secret to this was an 80's era Yamaha multi-band distortion. I'm not sure another distortion pedal would have done the exact same sound, because it's a really weird little unti.

This is more Sound Effects than music, but it's kinda cool. The crashing / scraping / hitting effects are all Yamaha EX7 that I recorded several months ago. I added some spacey sounds to it with Pro-53, a Prophet 5 soft synth from Native Instruments.

The opening track to a tape titled "Breathing", that I recorded in the Spring of 1987. It's amazing that I remember exactly where I was sitting when I taped this and several other pieces. This is an example of some crud overdubbing. The main part was recorded on tape, and then that tape was recorded along with a few more notes played along with it. Essentially a 2-track recorder I suppose. Being as it was March of that year, the title is "Exit, Winter", when was the original title I gave it way back then.

The EX in Wavestation EX stood for Expanded, which means more memory for more sounds was added to the original. There were many new sounds included, but probably the most important were DRUMS. There were NO drum sounds at all in the original WS. Here's another sample that I've found of some percussion sounds on the WS EX, this time played by hand. I recorded this to tape in 1998.

Ultralight

This piece just felt like time travel to me. Not the Sci-fi kind, but the real kind, in real time, in real life. We all have more experience with that now than we used to. The past few years have flown on by, I suppose you could say at the speed of Life. It's hard to feel that sometimes, but please always remember, that we are the lucky ones. 

And so I titled this "Life-Timed",  and it was improvised and recorded earlier this year, I believe it was in July, one of my favorite times of any year. It was a completely accidental gift to my ears, and maybe yours too. I hope you like it. 💙

This is a short soundtrack / incidental music type track, featuring the great Yamaha PSR-36, the home keyboard that's actually a real synthesizer. Named after an asteroid "Zoozve" which orbits the Sun, but is also a companion of the planet Venus. 

This is very spacey sounding, and doesn't really feel very digital at all, IMO, showing the versatility of the PSR36 and instruments like it.

One of the strangest things I ever made with a guitar, this is a spacey ambient / soundtrack piece done a couple of years ago. Prior to the start of this recording, the delay was made to sound like a random percussion type sound. I added a high pitched string sound done with Absynth, plus a little Pro-53 sweeping synth sound. With a long delay and reverb, you can make a guitar sound very much unlike a guitar. #SoundCloud ☁️

A fun little romp from all the way back to 1987. This is some various bass synth type playing, along with the Korg Super Drums. My Korg Poly-61 could make some great monophonic sounds, with bass type ones being really fun to play with using the pitch bend / modulation joystick. I'm up to 90 different tracks so far, recorded from 1987 to 2025.

This is a slowed down plus added effects version of "Moon Child", recorded on tape in 1999. The original is short and I thought slowing it down would make for an interesting experiment. 

Closing out the 20th Century, a little spiritual, natural, Lunar love. Moon Child flows by in waves, not unlike the ones the Moon rules in every century. 🌝

A short little demo piece from 2006 using the Yamaha TG55, the module version of the SY55, which I preferred. It sure was a handy, and inexpensive little box though, and great for combing with other synths. This is it all alone, and the unlike most of what I play where I like to make my own sounds (much better at that than actually playing), this is one of the preset sounds. #SoundCloud ☁️

A calming track I made this Summer, and rediscovered months later. All hardware, Yamaha EX7 and QR10 for the TR-808 analog drum sounds. It sounded blue (soothing blue, not sad blue), so I'll call it a favorite shade of that color for me ... Cobalt Blue. #SoundCloud ☁️

Going way back to 1987, this is Assorted Disorder, a very fast apeggiator piece that gets chaotic for a moment or two. Recorded to tape in 1987, using my Korg Poly-61.  The apeggiator  has a handful of patterns it can do, but if you have a Super Drums, you could use an output trigger on it to  trigger it, giving you so many more options. #SoundCloud ☁️

Now for something completely different! Here's a nice demo synth sound that's not a synth at all. This is my Washburn Bantam Bass Guitar plugged into a Yamaha RY 9 drum machine. The tracking is really bad with guitar, but much better with bass, as can be heard here. The synth sound is one of the samples in the drum machine, played back when triggered by my Bass! Nice sound, with some small glitches with the tracking, but in this case, it adds to the piece. #SoundCloud ☁️

An experiment I did way back in 1987, this is "drone". This is the Korg Poly61, recorded to tape, and then that tape mixed together with some more playing over it. A crude type of overdubbing, there's not a lot to it, but because I detuned the 2 channels, there is a great natural chorus sound though much of it. #SoundCloud ☁️

A very dark / haunting piece that I did in 1998. Done with the Korg Wavestation, with a detuned piano sound and a muted / processed vocal type sound. The inspiration for this were 2 different Cocteau Twins albums from the mid 80's, one with a similar piano sound played by Harold Budd (The Moon and the Melodies) and another with a very processed version of Liz Fraser's wonderful voice (Victorialand). #SoundCloud ☁️
