NonDisquiet For Peaches (disquiet0569) by Daniel Burke.
Was reading a piece in a magazine at the end of a long trip up the Oregon River in 1997 about gratitude. The punchline was “the key to contentment is an attitude of gratitude”. Still working that 25 years later but grateful to have come across it, as it was needed and I have found it works. I continue to try to recognize and acknowledge as much as possible. This piece is dedicated to my wonderful wife Laurie who was delivered to my doorstep (literally) by some guardian angels (almost literally) just in the nick of time. Its a great story I won’t bore you with but suffice to say she is the best thing that has happened for me this lifetime and I express that as often as I can.
I started out thinking to make a piece as gentle and kind as she is, with a nod to the magical & beautiful music of the 1988 album Plux Quba by Nuno Canavarro, which we both love. Music that inspired Oval, Microstoria the rest of the A-Music crew in Germany.

The piece quickly moved towards the Eno/Budd/Frippery I am increasingly falling into... Started with the Roland Jupiter-6 lovely marimba like patch and developed a theme which was played around with and replicated/altered with another track of digital piano. Added in an Arturia Analog IV Synclavier patch for a few slight synth/stringish swells, finally added 2 guitar overdubs and a few very distant field recordings made in Mexico and Spain.

Months of hearing my kids playing bits of Rush E (Andrew Wrangell) on and off of the piano have inspired a couple MIDI piano pieces.  This second one uses a few different modes and/or keys and is in the style of a duet that has simple beginnings.

Disquiet Junto Project 0571: Child’s Play
The Assignment: Make music inspired by a nursery rhyme.

I opted for "Fuchs Du hast die Gans gestohlen" (Fox you stole the goose), a German nursery rhyme from around 1824 based on an older folksong. Which seems to be, by what so ever strange reason, also very popular in Japan. It was written by Ernst Anschütz, whom you may know via "O Tannenbaum". Because I am just in love with some presets (yes) in Pigments, which use wavetables based on the MicroQ I once had (for the interested ones: Playhugger Microns https://www.plughugger.com/pigments-microns.html ), I currently do everything with these pads, and the results may be doubted. Anyway, I went for a slow ambient pads arrangement of this song, using only the original melody material plus some probabilities. At the end it did not sound like a lullaby at all (and does not say anything about nursery rhymes), but I liked it very much for what it is. At one point I added some sweet bells and stuff, but I always went back to this somehow brutal and unkrakenkrafty version.

Fuchs Du Hast Die Gans Gestohlen [disquiet0571]

For my first participation to the Disquiet Junto Project, I chose the theme of the lullaby because it' s a genre that I am passionate about and that I have already worked on in the past.
The melody I used as a guideline comes from a very old Welsh lullaby called Peis Dinogat (Dinogad's Smock). It appears in a 13th century manuscript but was probably composed some century earlier. The lyrics, which I have deliberately left out in order to turn it into an instrumental piece, tell of a father's exploits on the hunt, perhaps in the mode of lament. Among the list of animals, there is mention of a place, Derwennydd Falls, whose precise location is open to speculation.
To fit the lullaby genre, I have kept the melody in all its beauty and simplicity by repeating it from beginning to end. The use of panning is also there to suggest the pendulum movement.

A drum/percussion track for Disquiet Junto 0572: Rhythm Kit. Instruction: Record a beat with the intension that someone other than yourself will add something to it at a later date. 

These sounds were recorded during live jam with Creatures Once bandmate Monstrosus on Dec 10. We played live on some iOS apps conrolled by Korg nano keys, the Alesis e-drum kit, and Drumbrute Impact. We're both drummers as a first instrument so we always have fun with the drums. Had some other instrument sounds going in the jam, but took those out for this rhythm kit version. Arrangement kinds of follows how the jam played out, with M going off on the e-drums to cap things off. Hope someone in the Junto enjoys this beat! 
My family baked biscotti while I edited this, then we had a nice cuppa chai to go along.

Biscotti and Chai Rhythm Kit - [disquiet0572]

This week we had to take a rhythm track created by someone else for last weeks junto, and make it into a complete track.  I took a rhythm by @half-unusual

as it instantly had me jamming on the keys.  This track owes a bit of a debt to Jarre's Last Rhumba which I have been playing a lot lately, but just in terms of a few of the bass and rhythm patterns, which I have gone to town with a bit.
