Empathy Test

This track was my first little experiment with the new Pet Rock module. It's a rhythm generator with 2 clock inputs generating 2 clocked rhyhtms. I'm triggering it with shifting clock divisions, and mixing multiple elements live as the constantly changing clock times jitter the generated patterns. Make noise Tempi and Mutable Marbles are involved in the clocking and dividing process, and a Doepfer sequential switch and Acid Rain Switchblade are part of the patch to mix and shuffle the signals. The sounds are a mix of drum sounds from the Pulsar 23, and other "drum" sounds from Mutable Plaits, with effects including Mutable Clouds, Make Noise Mimeophone, and Strymon Magneto. Squelchy pitched material from the Spectraphon by Make Noise, triggered by the drum sounds. 

I'd really like to do more of this sort of stuff, and plan to, for now this is just a one off jam that I thought would be fun to share.

Pet Rock jam 5-4-24

(EDIT/UPDATED)This is a new draft/recording of a piece i've been toying with for some time. Built out of a little vocal sample loop made in ableton, my voice recorded at the Tvisongur installation in Seydisfjordur. There's some xylophone loops recorded at the Seydisfjordur music school that are triggering at random, and heavily processed through the Landscape Stereo Field. Everything else is modular synth - 2 A3 pages of patch notes that you don't need to see. The Moog Mother 32 through the Landscape Stereo Field and reverb is the main melodic sound, and the glitchy melodics sounds come from Mutable Instruments Plaits/Warps and and STO being modulated by the Thingamagoop. All the notes are generative with MI Marbles doing a lot of the decision making. Then I've sequenced a small rhythmic progression for the Make Noise Telharmonic, and blend between two different paced patterns with the Planar joystick. The vocal loop is cut up further in the Morphagene and performed with Pressure Points. Originally this was all performed live/in real time, no edits or overdubs. I've created the piece as something I can generate live, and improvise on. However on this latest version, I broke the process up into a few passes with different sounds so that I could isolate and mix the tracks better, and do a bit more with the stereo placement of everything.

The plan is to make this the lead single/title track for an EP of similar vibe stuff. All the left over sound objects that haven't made it onto the full length ambient record I'm releasing will be explored here, with more focus on the modular synth integrated into the explorations. The title of this piece is taken from graffiti on an abandoned house in Seydisfjodur, but chosen because after I did my tour, and subsequently finished making the album I'd been struggling with for so long, I really felt free, and able to explore ideas with more free spirited abandon. So this record will be much more Happy Go Lucky than any of my work before.

TFW when the record skips...

Playing around with tape loops and a skipping record, looping them both (tape through Strymon Magneto, the record in a Qu-Bit Nebulae) and letting the loops phase and interplay as simple little sound collages. The record is a Chopin Nocturne, the tape loop is from the man Who Plays Music on His Fingers.

Just felt like exploring something different from the blips I've been doing for the last few weeks. So I made a patch that's all about drones. 
The patch uses the Planar 2 joystick to mix between 4 VCAs, with 4 different drones. The Patch makes use of one of the suggested patches in the manual for the Wrong Vector Space module, with some additional flourishes for extra nuance. I love drone. I love finding that simmer point where there's enough movement but without any annoying rhythm or melody to cringe it up. Slowly working towards something new I guess.
