MadTech Records returns with some fresh material from UK artists Mia Dora this October, a three-track package featuring collaboration with Let The Machines Do The Work, and a remix from Newbie Nerdz. Rising UK duo Mia Dora comprises Al Quinn and Robert Etherson, two budding DJ’s and Producers who are becoming increasingly in demand as their careers blossom, the pair have struck a chord over the past few years with their energy fuelled, underground house sound. Dropping material via the likes of Glasgow Underground, Moda Black, Morris Audio and MadTech where they return to there, these associations being telling of the quality and universal appeal embodied in the pair’s productions.

Opening the release is title cut ‘Myth’ which sees Mia Dora collaborate with recent MadTech signing Let The Machines Do The Work. With such an array of talent on board it’s no surprise to see the outcome is a striking and emotive production employing mesmerizing vocal lines, bright piano progressions and rumbling bass tones to create a contemporary heavy-hitter.

Gruuv / Leftroom artists Newbie Nerdz step up to rework ‘Myth’ next, offering up their typically polished production style with swinging 909 style drums alongside drawn out bass and tom-tom hits, while the
original vocal licks and smooth piano chords add a further charm and character to the interpretation.

Then last up to round things off is another original from Mia Dora, going at it alone this time with ‘Sedative’, a charming lo-fi infused composition led by melodious piano’s, hypnotic atmospherics and crunchy low-slung drums to close the package on an elegant tip.

We're a sucker for a big vocal record at Glasgow Underground. From Thelma Houston's version of "Don't Leave Me This Way" to Kariya's "Let Me Love You For Tonight" to Degrees In Motion's "Shine On" and even (guilty pleasure alert) the Jacques Lu Cont mix of Gwen Stefani's "What You Waiting For" right up to current massively popular house records like Route 94's "My Love" and (whisper it!) Ferreck Dawn & Redondo's "Love Too Deep", whatever the decade, there's a moment on the right dancefloor where you can't beat a big, catchy screamer. 

Illyus & Barrientos have been developing their own brand of vocal anthems. Whether it's "Guided Light" turning on Cameo & Trevor Nelson or "Do Anything You Wanna" featuring in playlists of DJs as varied as Groove Armada, Gorgon City and 1Xtra's Sarah Jane Crawford, Glasgow's latest production stars have built a reputation for delivering cuts that sound perfect in the club and on the airwaves. "Need Me" is their latest single and their song that is most likely to unite all their varying supporters. It features the kind of killer vocals and gorgeous, heart-warming pianos that make an effortless radio record and mix it with the type of bassline that will have the househeads putting it in the folder marked "weapons". 

For those looking for something a bit darker there is the mean, brooding Schatrax meets Murk style vocal groove of "Never Enough". Remixes come from Brett Gould and Newbie Nerdz. Brett takes "Need Me" and ups the garage factor with some razor-sharp beats and one of his brilliant, bouncy basslines. The Nerdz take "Never Enough" into deeper, Madtech territory with a heavy beats and a booming tonal bottom end.

Here comes the next big UK name on the German Toy Tonics label: PBR Streetgang. With past releases on Hot Creation, Wolf, 20/20 Vision and a DJ residency at WE LOVE in Ibiza the guys belong to the finest in UK techno funk. Now they joined the new German label that has been chosen by Beatport recently as "one of 10 visionary labels that will rise to prominence in 2015".

PBR Streetgang's  "Move on" - EP is the next step in the German vs. UK collaboration history on Toy Tonics. Luke Solomon, Whitesquare, Montel were the first Toy Tonics releases made by British names. PBR Streetgang come up with this 2 tracker that includes a bomb-remix by newcomer KIAN T. Sounding like Max Graef taking a few MDMA pills to much and getting lost in the vintage synth hell..

Elusive London DJ and producer KDA demanded to remix ‘Fairground’ on first listen, stepping up to deliver a pneumatic dub version that loses none of the original’s dark ambiance. It follows KDA’s own debut single ‘Rumble’ last year, which ultimately topped the UK singles chart with a reworked version featuring Katy B and Tinie Tempah.

The Fat! Club are back with the 6th edition in their now iconic series of totally free EPs, shining a light on some of the UK’s most promising underground talent. This month we introduce you the delights of Whilk & Misky, Kovu, Twin Peaks, Whitesquare, TOby P and GXGW.

Established in 1997, The Fat! Club encompasses a record label, blog; club night and management agency. This long running commitment to UK underground music has seen Chew the Fat! host arenas at festivals across the UK and Europe, monthly parties around the globe, and six consecutive summer residencies at We Love Sundays at Space Ibiza.

Next up is Kovu, a new producer we’ve been keeping an eye on based in Manchester. Slick and soulful house grooves on Keep Truckin’, drawing comparisons to the vibes Wolf Music have been putting out, particularly from the likes of Squarehead, with a Chicago sound that’s been very popular up north over the past year.

Glasgow Underground was set up in 1997 by Kevin McKay. He began the label releasing his own music and collaborations with friends and other Glasgow-based artists (Omid 16b, Studio Blue, DJ Q, Harri). Through his DJing and work for various music magazines (Muzik, Jockey Slut, Mixmag Update) he met some of his favourite producers of the time (Romanthony, Mateo & Matos, Idjut Boys...) and convinced some of them to join him releasing on GU. In the early 2000s, Kevin met Mylo and set up the Breastfed record label. The global success of "Destroy Rock & Roll" meant Glasgow Underground was put on hold. After leaving the Breastfed label in 2011, Kevin re-started Glasgow Underground and since then the label has gone on to re-invigorate Romanthony's catalogue with remixes from the likes of Dixon, MCDE, Gerd, Andres, Oliver Dollar, Ejeca, Audiojack, Claptone, Christian Nielsen, Supernova, Jimmy Edgar and Waifs & Strays. The label has also introduced producers like Daniel Trim, Brett Gould, Mia Dora and Illyus & Barrientos as well has releasing established & rising stars such as Metodi Hristov, Stefano Ritteri and Sabb.
