All That I Know

Story To Tell

With a sound much less fragile than their name suggests, Manchester's Glass Tides are a four-piece with both an ear for a melody, and vocals that stay with you in heart and mind. Like the maritime ebb and flow from which they take part of their name, the band's composition flirts between rousing and atmospheric contemporary folk, and more recently, heavier blues-fuelled garage rock. It's quite a polarising difference, but one that Glass Tides have pulled off with aplomb. 

Indeed, whilst their self-titled debut EP offered up rich and emotive narratives underpinned by a sincere and undeniable pop-sensibility, in turn magnified by the sleek production, 'Black Knight Satellite' encompasses a traditional rock aesthetic, channelling the sounds of the early '70s in favour of the more contemporary folk fancies of their debut. 

It might come as a surprise for those familiar with the band's earlier releases, and whilst a slight change in direction might otherwise signal a maturing process in other acts, Glass Tides held a maturity beyond their years to begin with, and for them it signals only their refusal to be bound by a single aesthetic, making it all the better for it.

The band will release 'Black Knight Satellite' with a show at Manchester's Guillivers on Friday 6th March.
