Berlin, June 19: on my balcony with the ukulele after a 12-hour workday in sultry 32-degree weather, all my Allerstraße neighbors leaning out their own balconies panting like dogs chatting away in five different languages, Turkish kids still playing in the street four floors down at 10pm, feels like a relic from a different time, back when"stickball" was a thing and people made gefilte fish in their basements. so I write an old-school tin-pan-alley-type tune but because of the lyrics that end up happening and because I'm a girl with a ukulele it all sounds maybe a little too, uh, Deschanelian. But whatever.
