Glass Echoes is the Minneapolis duo of Chris Bartels and Ben Noble. “Past The Sundown” will be the first single of upcoming debut album, Breathe.

The lyrics sort of point to the theme of the whole album, breathing, and how breath is this fundamental part of our existence that can help center us - we didn’t start out writing with any theme in mind - these lyrics just sort of happened naturally for both of us - the idea of breath, and breathing, kept coming up.

Elements of the song: cassette tape loops, rough sampled and looped piano bits, banjo as an almost-percussion instrument, real drums blended with drum machines - the “clean” intermixed with the “dirty” -- high production blended with raw, lo-fi stuff

“Long Way” is the first Glass Echoes release since their debut album Breathe, which Atwood Magazine described as "stunning cinematic indie folk soundtrack to self-awareness and awakening." Heart-wrenching cinematic indie folk track, featuring both Chris Bartels and Ben Noble’s vast vocal ranges, lamenting "where did I go wrong / baby, we're a long way from the water's warmth." Glass Echoes expanded to include respected Minneapolis producer Matt Patrick, who added creative touches and mixed the single.

Glass Echoes is the Minneapolis duo of Chris Bartels and Ben Noble.

In the midst of exploring a variety of musical styles together, Glass Echoes organically turned into the flagship collaboration between Minneapolis-based songwriters Ben Noble and Chris Bartels. With no regard for sonic boundaries, it became a full creative expression for both of them. Each song, rich in layers, has a unique and experimental character, while still embracing a melodic, familiar tone.

The creative process for their debut album, Breathe, was a growing sonic experiment of layered sounds and melodies. In particular, when it came to vocals, each song - each section, in fact - would be sent back and forth between them, and they'd then take turns layering over harmonies, chopped vocal samples, reversing, printing onto analog tape and slowing the reel-to-reel speed down, drenching in effects, on and on - there were no rules.

This mentality also applied to the instrumentation and production. There are banjos used as percussion, cassette tape loops, random bits of noise and field recordings, analog synthesizer improvisations, looped iPhone recordings of roomy pianos, mid-century out-of-tune chord organs, saxophone atmospheres, and so many more unexpected layers - all living in harmony amongst the layers of melody and rhythm.
