Our cover of "Search & Destroy" by Iggy & The Stooges happened accidentally in mid-Novemeber as we were walking down the street, humming a melody that we thought was going to be a new original song. Within a few hours, it turned into a cover. We were feeling very distressed about how current events had us and many of our friends feeling shattered about the future; about the coming year, and who would be in charge of all of us. Would this mean war abroad? Would this mean more struggle here at home? It felt appropriate to revive a song that was originally written about a very turbulent time in American history, and re-dress it for what we're going through today -- except to end it with a touch of hope, and belief in ourselves and the presence of good will. It was the beginning of summer last year and I had quit my desk job / broke up with my girlfriend shortly before a show at The Middle East in Boston. After the gig, we crashed at a friends apartment across the street. I was having a hard time falling asleep and found a Uke laying around, so I noodled on it until I passed out. The next morning I found Heart Breaks In Bloom as a voice memo on my cell.

In 2010, David told Interview‘s Katie Mendelson that their music was “intensive, sensitive, and runs the gamut of the human condition.” And yes, the horn is part of the sound, not just a catchy band name. “Our album is actually centered around the French horn,” David said. “It has to do with the struggle to understand who you are. The reason why the whole band started was Robert felt like he wasn’t fitting in. In modern society, the horn player has very limited options.”

New single, ‘Renaissance Man’, is a collaboration with Laurence Jepson and Charlie Dale of indie pop duo Lejon. “‘Renaissance Man’ is a tune about the simpler things in love,” David tells Popdose. “The track features true Renaissance period instruments: Robert on Natural Horn heavily disguised as a Moog bass synth, Charlie on recorder masquerading as a synth organ and a piano break by Laurence recorded on an 18th Century (ok, not quite Renaissance) Steinway.”
