Acclaimed Canadian singer-songwriter Justin Nozuka will release his new album ‘Ulysees’ on March 31st through Glassnote Records.

With the newfound freedom of working from his home-based studio, and the experimentation of sitting in the producer’s chair for the first time, ‘Ulysees’ is a marked departure from Nozuka’s previous work. The record crafts a world that fully explores the space and vibrancy that resonates within the purity of minimalism.

“To me the songs feel generous and spontaneous,” he explains. “I wanted to create a world with this album, an experience that is unique and unified.” 

The bold move to produce on his own has brought a depth and instinct to his music that was previously untapped. While he looks back fondly on his previous work, this evolution in his creative process heralds a departure into new territory that he now relishes. Listeners can almost feel the raw and transformative experience it has been for Nozuka.

Languid, minimal and bristling with sensual feeling, first single ‘Right By You’, released Monday 7th April,  delves beautifully into the unique, soothing and dream-like world which Nozuka so deftly weaves together throughout ‘Ulysees’, showcasing his incredible vocal talent at it’s very best. 

Nozuka has also announced a string of hotly anticipated European tour dates. On April 6th he will kick off proceedings at Amsterdam’s Melkweg before taking in London’s Borderline on April 7th, Paris’ Lamaroquinerie on April 9th, Zurich’s Komplex Klub on April 10th, Koln’s Luxor Live on April 11th, Hamburg’s Indra Musikclub on April 12th and finally Berlin’s Magnet Club on April 14th. 

Already with a cult army of fans worldwide, ‘Ulysees‘ seems sure to cement Nozuka as one of the most intriguing and unique solo artists of the moment.

Ever the aural adventurer, Carmen Villain has long traversed a boundless array of sounds, deftly moving from art nouveau pop to fog-laden avant-dub. Yet at every artistic turn, the Norwegian-Mexican’s chameleon-like charm seldom loses its alluring, organic beauty. Fresh off her contribution to 2020’s A Little Night Music… compilation, Carmen joins Geographic North’s Sketch for Winter series for its 9th installment. Perlita, named after Carmen’s grandmother living in Puebla, Mexico, is a sweetly somber reflection on the ever-present cycle of and hibernation and reemergence.

The A side begins with “Everything Without a Shadow”, a wide-angled and windswept vista of expansive permafrost and still-glowing embers of a recently extinguished fire. A sign of life in an otherwise desolate place. “Two Halves Touching” continues to drift through the frigid scene, lightly pulsing underneath a muted but vibrant tundra until coming upon echoes of voices chanted into the snowdrift. “Light in Phases” follows the cue with hurried hesitance, uncovering a sonic slush of radiant zither, blurred voices, and calm resolution.

“Things That Are Solid” begins to thaw the B side, strolling through newly uncovered verdancy, welcoming murmurs peeking out of the snow. With “Molina”, any last remnants of Winter have disappeared, leaving only a solemn suite of piano motifs breaking ground like seedlings bursting to life. With help from Johanna Scheie Orellana on flute and alt-flute, the album’s closer “Aqua Azul'' floats along with unencumbered motion like a happy stone skating across a tranquil pond.
