The year is slowly coming to an end -

Christmas means two faces these days.

Isn’t it a Miracle?
A colleague once told me that an alcoholic had come to him and asked for help. There was a series of night-long conversations: The alcoholic had literally lost everything he owned. His furniture had been pawned. His family had been broken by his addiction. At some point, the man had reached the point where he agreed to a lengthy rehab programme. When he came back, he managed - with the help of my colleague - to build up a modest existence again. He takes a room and buys himself the most basic pieces of furniture. He finds work and really manages to stay ‘dry’. After months, he once asked his pastor the question: ‘Pastor, do you actually believe in miracles? Did Jesus really turn water into wine back then?’ And he replied: ‘I know for sure that he turned wine into furniture for you!’ - I wrote a song about this story today. Ist das nicht ein Wunder?
Ein Kollege hat mir einmal erzählt, es sei ein Alkoholiker zu ihm gekommen und habe um Hilfe gebeten. Es gab eine Reihe von nächtelangen Gesprächen: Der Alkoholkranke hatte sich buchstäblich um seine ganze Habe gebracht. Seine Möbel waren verpfändet. Seine Familie war über seine Sucht zerbrochen. Irgendwann war der Mann so weit, dass er sich auf eine längere Entziehungskur einlässt. Als er zurückkommt, gelingt es ihm - mit Hilfe meines Kollegen -, sich wieder eine bescheidene Existenz aufzubauen. Er nimmt sich ein Zimmer und kauft sich die notwendigsten Möbelstücke. Er findet Arbeit und schafft es wirklich, »trocken« zu bleiben. Nach Monaten stellt er seinem Pfarrer einmal die Frage: »Herr Pfarrer, glauben Sie eigentlich an Wunder? Hat Jesus damals wirklich aus Wasser Wein gemacht?« Und dieser hat geantwortet: »Sicherer als das weiß ich, dass er bei Ihnen aus Wein Möbel hat werden lassen!« - Über diese Geschichte habe ich heute ein Lied geschrieben. how his family was broken.
He was so blind until the end,
addiction was stronger than love.
The devil won this game.

At dawn, he whispered to himself
that he was ready for therapy.
The devil laughed: You'll never make it.
He left and my friend hoped that miracles would happen.
That miracles would happen.

Later he said to me:
The blind man came back months later.
He had changed and accepted help.
So he built on his last chance,
He didn't have much, but he had enough.
He took a room and bought himself 
a bed, a table and a chair.

‘Hey, do you believe in miracles?’ he asked my friend.
And: ‘Did Jesus turn water into wine?’
My friend shrugged his shoulders,
